My hair feels like its growing at a speed 5 x faster than before,
fingernails - didnt even notice during stopping smoking that id actually stop biting fingernails and they're growing really quick.
Only other thing ive notice is that since i stopped smoking, my gums are bleeding terribly... i brush, floss and mouthwash twice a day but having problems. My last 6 month check up, my dentist was really pleased and said i didnt have to go back for another year or 2. I am glad I kept the 6 month check up (due in march) because i think it will be a different story now ive stopped smoking

The road to smoke free is easier when you are not alone
Seems its quite common for gums to bleed after stopping as they are healing from all the inflamation from smoking, I shouldnt worry wait and see Dentist and if you are really worried ring and bring forward appointment (Dont go googling doesnt always help speak to the expert)
Others will prob give you there exsperiences as you get further into quit and this site is great for that.
Heres my poem I wrote it as a mantra when I started my quit and still use it to make me stop and think if I ever get a bit shall we say the urge LOL
I’m really glad that you’ve quit
Cause in the past you’ve smoked some sh**
Smelly Hair Hands and Breath
Shorter Life but longer Death
Up the hills you’ve got no puff
Smokers cough that makes you rough
So pass each day without the weed
Cause only then will you succeed
So Bravo to all that now don’t smoke
Cause early Death is sure no Joke
Have a good one and dont stop coming on here it will get you through the first months which will help you continue your quit xx
Regarding the bleeding gums............ I've had conflicting advice from two dentists and two hygienists on the problem of gums and bleeding since quitting.
One dentist and hygienist said (and it's also backed up here to some degree) that shrinking back is normal (and that I accept) and some bleeding will occur, give it time to settle but come and see us if worried.
Another dentist and his hygienist said shrinking is normal but bleeding is not. The told me that bleeding is a sign of gum problems and or disease and should be dealt with soon as poss and not left to 'clear up and go'.
It was explained that during smoking our gums swell and blood supply is limited so therefore gum problems are often late in showing themselves due to limited bleeding from limited supply.
Now your quitting the blood is circulating better and problems (maybe) are showing themselves in a normal way and within better time.
To be safe and have your mind put at ease...... you need not see your dentist earlier but you could book to see your hygienist.
my support worker from smoking cessation mentioned that sore mouth ,bleeding gums ,sore throat are common symptoms when people quit smoking, but the reason has escaped me. its also mentioned in the bumf that the nhs produces on quitting smoking, so its probably nothing to worry about, but speak to a pharmacistor your dentist if your concerned. Me too on day 14, novelty is wearing off and just feel exhausted all the time , maybe i did when i was smoking, its all weird but my feet are nice and warm
