I am not/can't be/don't know how to be proud of what is now 4 hours short of two weeks without smoking.

Suggestions for things to say to myself appreciated. I thought it might be useful to have a collection in a thread.

Thanks muchly

KT

Where are you located? If you're in the UK you are 8 hours away from Alberta. Even so, on the Albert lung association forum alberta.quitnet.com/communi... they have a 'gadget' which will calculate how many days smoke free, how much money you have saved (you can set the per pack price), and how many days your life expectancy has increased.

You don't need to think about it then.

Anyway, give yourself a huge pat on the back, a huge hug and BE PROUD!

What an amazing accomplishment. The first 3 days not smoking are the worst!

Have a great smoke free day!

Hey Kari and KT.

Don't say anything to yourself KT, just take yourself down the shops and buy yourself a very large thing you have wanted for a while, but you would've not been able to afford,and have a really nice meal, which you wouldn't have been able to taste as well before!

My gadget says the following for me:

Hello AlbertanCA!

images.quitnet.com/images/q... Your Quit Date is: Sunday, August 23, 2009 at 12:00:00 PMTest Time Smoke-Free: 55 days, 16 hours, 59 minutes and 22 secondsCigarettes NOT smoked: 1393Lifetime Saved: 10 days, 15 hoursMoney Saved: $554.40

It is fun to read this. Look at the number of cigarettes not smoked. WOW!

That has given me an idea. Thanks Karl :)

Tests passed so far:

* a working week (2)

* a weekend (almost 2)

* wine in large quantities at home

* beer in reasonable quantities in the pub (couple of times)

* sunday lunch out

* dinner out with colleagues

* a day with the KTparents

* being at football

* 14 first thing in the mornings

* 14 last thing at nights

* umpteen leaving places where smoking couldn't happen

* ten walks around St James' Park

* 2 walks around Hampstead Heath

* not buying cigs in shops that sell them (lots of times)

* French group

* the cat being nowhere to be found (briefly)

Not bad at all

and its proof that you can do life quite nicely without needing a drug constantly in your system to prop you up. Life is far better without nicotine, its only the drug we are trying to quit that tries to make us believe otherwise.

If i WANTED to be hooked on a drug, by god, i'd choose something a hell of alot more fun than nicotine. (Truth!)

No kidding Jase! If I was going to choose to be addicted it would need to be a lot more fun, a lot healthier and a lot cheaper. Hm, sounds like booze ... LOL :D and I'm kidding!

What the heck time is it in the UK? It is going on 1:00 pm here in Alberta, Canada. The last time I was in Heathrow I wanted a smoke but the smoking room was disgusting so we found a pub at the airport and had a pint. The joke is that it was 5:00 am our time and we were drinking beer.

How about the fact that you are no longer forced to feed your addiction on the hour, every hour, every day.............. you can now enjoy your life versus trying to find the next opportunity to inhale toxins.

Also tell yourself, that in the early stages of your quit things may be tough BUT those days will pass and the freedom and control you will gain will make every tough moment worth while.

You are doing great :)

Great post...and the others above too.

KT, when those days are past and your quit is firmly entrenched...that experience will show you that you can pretty much achieve anything you want by putting your mind to it.

You've got loads to look forward to.
