Day 4 again. I say again because I've had a few day fours. It's great to count the days and use them as milestones but it can be very disencouraging if, like me you have had quite a few of them.
Someone made me think quite differently about my past 'failures'. Let me explain.
In a pm to me they pointed out that I should feel proud of myself and stop seeing myself as a failure and this made me think.
As you can see from my signature I've been doing this for quite a long time. Every time I have a slip up I go back to day 1 and this causes me to feel as though I've failed. I'm sure that many of you that have had to go back to day 1 a few times will understand that feeling.
So here's the maths of it.
I used to smoke 2oz every 6 days. It is now 60 days since my quit began and despite my many stumbles I have actually NOT SMOKED 20oz of tabacco.(in old money) For those of you that have gone metric that's about HALF A KILO!!!!!!!!!!
That calculation has made me feel so good. I believe that I needed to change the way I was thinking. Just one kind comment from a lovely fellow quitter has done that for me.
It's amazing how much difference this has made to me. I feel so proud now and if your like me and you've had a few stumbles along the way, why don't you try and work out how many you've NOT SMOKED. Counting the days are great for milestones in this tough journey, but don't let your stumbles get you down.
I'm proud to be on day 4 now and with this new way of thinking I feel more confident about my quit.
I hope this helps some of you who are struggling as much as it has helped me.
Thanks to everyone on here for all the support that I have had.
Hopeful

What a wonderful post this is and so helpful to other newbies and stumblers along the road to freedom that we are all travelling
You're on day 4 now and are right to be proud of yourself, You sound so very different now to what you did that I feel sure that this time you've cracked it
You should never feel a failure Because you are still quitting not giving in altogether. But I do know what you mean. I myself have been quitting since march 2007 and gone back to day one a few times. But I was a 40 a day smoker and since I started have only smoked a total of about 10 weeks so cant be bad. Im sure this is your time hunnie one day at a time. xxxxxxxxx

I hope you feel very, very proud of that. Wow March 2007, you've got some staminer!!!! You have given me so much hope. If you can do it for that long and not stop quitting you must be sooooo determined. CONGRATULATIONS.
That was a brilliant post thank you for sharing. I started quitting on the 3rd March failed at 15th day smoked a bit quit again lasted nearly a week smoked again and Ive done nothing but beat myself up about it felt so bad. Now quit nearly 2 weeks and still feel bad about the fails but this post has made me feel tons better.
You seem a lot more possitive this time round aswell, ive done more reading on the whyquit site this time and re-read stuff and everytime I feel like a cig I think about what I have read and let it sink in a bit more.
Thank you hopeful you have made my day. Just past 5 months thursday and hope this time I will be seeing the penthouse.

Please don't feel bad, none of us should. This is one hell of a journey, it,s not just a physical addiction, there's a whole complicated psychology that goes along with it and I think that's where alot of us struggle.
I'm really glad if my post has helped anyone. Just keep looking at how well your doing, count those not smoked fags and thank yourself from the bottom of your lungs for all the ones your HAVN'T lit.
i know it a struggle, I'm still struggling too, but I KNOW we can all do it if we can just find the staminer to keep going.
