Doesn`t sound like your feeling any different to the rest of us mate.
Read some of the other threads as there are quite a few of us on here that are on day 10.
Someone will be along shortly who`s an inspiration to tell you when you`ll start feeling better, just hang on in there
Welcome gary. This forum will soon sort you. we are like a family and stick together through the toughest of times. some fly through it while others struggle stumble and fall. but we pick them up dust them off and set them on the right path again. all you need to do is stick with us. good luck xxx
I guessed as much, but thanks anyway.

hi mate
know exactly what you are saying and am in the same stage - i stopped new years day and have gone cold turkey.
There is no magic cure - if there was the inventor would be the richest man or woman on the planet but you gotta realise that as a former smoker if you wanna stop, really wanna stop then you have to accept that you can never ever ever have even the tiniest drag on a cigarette again. Never.
This is a big thing to accept but once you have declared that to yourself (and maybe your friends and family) i think it starts to become a reality.
There are quite a few threads on here where some hugely warm and helpful people have debated these issues so i reckon its worth taking an hour to have a read. Its also helpful to download one of the stats widgets for your desktop - it tells you how long you have managed to go without a ciggie for, how much money you have saved and how much you have added back to your life expectancy. Its a nice way to give yourself a little pat on the back.
All the best Gary i hope you stick to it mate.
Thanks for the support and help, really appreciate it
I have smoked for the past 30 years or so (young starter) and this is the first real try at quitting for good.
It's great to know there are people out there experiencing the same. Let's hope together we all succeed. I am determined!!!
Wow Gary you sound a bit more posotive now anyway. I thought we had lost you because we had no magic cure ha ha !

I think any one quitting cold turkey is amazing! I'm quite sure I couldn't have done it like that, the Champix was the best for me.
Gary it may help if you get a copy of Allan Carr's Easy Way to stop smoking. I found on bad days that re reading bits of the book really helped. I also thought about how the smoke going down used to burn me - horrid!
The empty feeling is mr Nic trying to get back to you I know it's not good but it DOES get less and less.
Hello Gary,
I think it's all been pretty much said here that it not easy to get rid of that feeling of wanting another cigarette. The first week there is almost a constant nagging reminder during the day. I have to say that I still I get that feeling at times throughout the day even now at nearly 4 weeks...!!! It does need a lot of self determination to get through that, but at the same time I find I have to have something positive in all this to encourage me to keep going.
On the one hand I have said goodbye to cigarettes for the rest of my life (period.), but I'm not waiting so much to test myself each morning to see if I'd ever fancy having one again because I know for myself I'd probably answer yes (I’d never forget what chocolate tastes like if I stopped eating it, so I’m darn sure I’ll never forget what a cigarette taste like either). However, if I focus on how much healthier I am getting each day, and what I am now capable of doing physically now I am healthier. For example I walked to the newsagents this morning because the wrong paper was delivered to my door. Normally by the time I had got there and back I'd have been; a little bit wheezy, hot/sweaty and hacking up something not too attractive, but today I REALLY felt well! I could breathe clearly, and there was a real energy in me I had not felt since my 20's. These are the drivers for me that will prevent me from becoming that dirty smelly smoker guy, who was paying lots for the privilege to destroy his health.
Feel very proud of your achievements, reward yourself for your successes and don’t feel for one minute that you are depriving yourself by not smoking!!! Try and think more in terms of what self mutilation you are saving your body from.
Hope this helps
Thanks to everyone for their advice and support today.
I'll check in tomorrow for progress reports.
