Hi all!

I'm new here and what a joy to have such a site!!

Yes it is and welcome.

It seems that more people giving up smoking than openly enjoying it these days....

You are quite right. In the UK smoking rates have dropped from over 50% of the population during the 70's to 25% now. More people are quitting each year (including around 1.1 million smokers from 'No Smoking Day' on 14th March in Britain).

When the no smoking legislation comes out on 1st July another 600,000 people are estimated to quit.

It is very unlikely anybody 'enjoys' smoking. Nicotine is powerfully addictive (some say more than heroine) and withdrawing from addiction can be quite unpleasant for a short while. You know that feeling when you feel like a smoke? That's your body telling you its nicotine levels are low and if you ignore it, the feeling gets stronger until you feel you have to smoke. The 'enjoyment' that you feel is actually relief from the effects of nicotine withdrawal.

Eventually if you go without nicotine for long enough, your body realises that it doesn't need it and the feeling will subside. Your sense of taste improves dramatically, your lungs work better, you don't smell, you cut your chance of a heart attack, you become more attractive to others and you are richer!

so what a refreshing changes!!

You are absolutely right! :D

I am on day 7 of champix.I have been on another helpfull site and got loads of useful information about its use. There are loads of nice helpful people their. For some reason yesterday the moderator stopped anyone discussing champix and delieting threads that mention it.Despite people pleading and despite the fact it was the number 1 topic healthboards.com/boards/for...

No its the same there, thread closed. Its not the same as here, nearly everyone on there is on ,or done the course of champix. You can now mention all ways to quit apart from champix.Unfortunetly they are deleating posts instantly

What is Champix? Is it available in the UK? Is it like Zyban?

I've never liked the thought of taking a drug for the craving and messing with your body/mind, i've known others take Zyban and i didn't like the sound of their side effects.

with out a bye you leave.

Threads are only instantly closed if there's a mod around, unfortunately, ours seem to have left .

With no one with any power to close threads the spamifiers are slowly taking over!!

I believe these threads are for people who are quitting any which way, they come for support not mid movie adverts! man that's annoying.

Anyone advertising ANYTHING! should be modded

You are paranoid.I returned to smoking again due to side effects.I had really bad headaches pain in legs, and very dry eyes.I am now trying again ,so thanks for your support. My point is that through advice from other people who have had problems with a new medicain,i now am trying a pill splitter and halving the tablets,These people were told to do this by there doctors. This is a no smoking forum and all types of quitting methods should be discussed, patch, gum, zyban, champix etc.And yes i am honest,i am 48 years old,and have been smoking 2 packs a day and i am trying to pack it in.

Just forgot to mention, did you read champix side effect or allergy,It is a thread near the bottom. There is 54 pages so it will be discussed here when more people use it,like zyban.Whatever way someone quits needs to be incouraged, and yes spam is bad on this site but do not include a prescription quit smoking method

Not being paranoid neither do I have the ability to mind read!

When you post you only give a line or two and a link, you don't really give human feeling to your posts.

Lets start again!

i am 48 years old,and have been smoking 2 packs a day and i am trying to pack it in.

Welcome Again Justintime x x Great decision on the quit!

Do keep us posted on the champix, as you say, it's very new and it will be real helpful to many here to hear first hand how the user feels.

Did your Gp advise the pill splitting on helping the side effects?

Which day of using champix do you stop smoking?

Good Luck Justin, soz about crossed wires

chantix/champix

Please be careful with the chantix. Be honest with the doctor about all the meds/drugs/herbs you are on. I was on *********** with the chantix and thought i had a heart attack. Stress test I had on wednesday came back clear so we are assuming that it was the combo although we really don't know. There are no long term studies in on the chantix however, I do believe it is a mircle drug for those of us who have tried all other methods and failed.

I am proud to say I have had nothing since Monday and have not even thought about smokes until I smell them then they make my stomach roll.

Breathing easier every day....oh the smells!!!
