Creatinine increasing

Hi I am 6 yers post kidney transplant non related living donor. My Cr has increased from a baseline of 1.0 to 1.7(3 mo ago) and today 2.4 My Tacro was elevated 3 months ago to 8.3, but now dropped to 6.1. Is this normal for a Cr? I am scared I am going into rejection. I am waiting to hear from my team. 2.4 is the highest I have ever been. I feel great and believe I am pretty well hydrated. Just nervous.

sorry to hear that your numbers are going in the wrong direction. I’m almost 6 years out and my last creatinine result was 1.71, previously it was 1.4.

My baseline is around 1.5. I’m hoping this just a random spike, which I have experienced before. Good luck!

Was your transplant team concerned? Did they make any changes?

I see them quarterly and they have asked to do another blood test in 6 weeks to determine if it was just an anomaly or if there is a situation. 🤞

Going from 1.17 to 1.24 is not significant. I wouldn’t be concerned at all. If it went from 1.7 to 2.4, it would be alarming.

Thanks for clarifying! NUCH better with the accurate data!

I would suggest a retest as I have experienced a fluke in my results due to lab error or whatever..a retest for me made a significant difference. Important to keep drinking your water in a regular basis, I have been advised 3 (16 oz) bottles minimally, 4 preferably. I am 13 years out and my creatinine average is 0.9-1.0. Good Luck, I am sure you will be fine. Sending good health your way!

My Transplant team said to drink 64 oz of water a day. My Veterinarian told me she drinks 120 oz of water a day! That's a lot!!

I’ve got you beat on water requirements: 100 Fl oz is my daily target. I feel like I’ll float away some days…

lol. How do ou not get nauseated?

Jayhawker profile image
Jayhawker in reply tokidneymom09

I really just continuously sip on water all day long. I have to drink 5 20 Fl oz bottles filled with water. So, drink one by 10am, another by 1pm, another by 4pm, another by 7pm, and the last by 11pm when o go to bed. If I don’t stay on track it’s pretty much impossible to drink enough water before bed.

You might want to delete and correct this post. The original numbers you posted are very concerning and would likely result in a biopsy. The actual numbers are not. Please listen to your doctor.

Has your doc Recommended Belaracept infusions? My creatinine has improved since I started them and happy to be totally off tacrolimus.

Misspelled Belatacept. That is the correct spelling. Here in New York State (Central NY) infusions are used more often than not, research has shown there is much less chance of rejection with infusions 7 years after transplant.

why the infusions vs tacrallomus?

Could be a random spike. Keep calm until you hear from your team. Praying for you!

I was told Tacrolimus Post-transplant (after a year) shld be 4 - 6. I would do research online if a high Tacro can cause the high Creatinine? I attended a virtual support mtg yesterday and the Guest Speaker was a Nephrologist from Emory University Hosp. I think I remember her saying that over 2.0 was high for Creatinine.

I am 16 mos post-transplant and my Creatinine is .93 and my Tacro is 4.2. My eGFR is 67.

I hate the Prednisone. I'm on 5 mg and have gained 40 lbs.!! I want my Neph to lower it to 2.5 mg.
