Recently my urine results came with +1 protein so they want me to do more tests of course.
While waiting, I bought my own protein urine sticks from Amazon. I’m not sure how accurate these are. I’ve tested daily last week and they were negative.
I test today and it’s very positive. Looks to be +1 again.
I will be going Monday to do the official protein/creatinine ratio test.
Has anyone had false protein or had protein before and it wasn’t a big deal??? I’m worried but I’m trying to stay positive!!
It doesn’t help that my skin started itching once this started..
Thank you!

I had a reading of +3 protein in my urine. My doctor thought it could be due to medication or "hurt" kidneys. He prescribed a low dosage of Losartan. After a couple of weeks on the drug, my protein went down to +2. We'll see if the trend continues.
My creatinine has been stable at around 1.3. We discussed the possibility of doing a kidney biopsy, but decided to wait to see how I reacted to the Losartan. BTW, the med that may be causing my urine protein is everolimus.
I consistently have 1-2 grams of protein in my urine at 3 years post-transplant. I think it was closer to 3 before the transplant, but I honestly don't remember. Nothing about my journey has been normal, so my team just looks at the current labs compared to the three to five most recent, to see what the trend is. At 1.5, they consider me "stable" and don't get too concerned. However, when my WBC count went 8.6 to 13.2 and then 14.7, without an obvious illness, they did a little digging to get at the root. Turns out I had ANOTHER asymptomatic UTI, which they treated and the WBC returned to normal. If you're team isn't panicking about it, you don't need to either. But do watch the trend, and if they don't say anything, being it up at your next appointment. Best wishes!
I’ve only had protein in my urine one or two times before in 12 years of transplant. I guess I’m worried since this isn’t normal for me. My creatinine also runs around 1.5-1.6 most of the time. It’s been steady. I’ll keep you updated
Alot can have to do with how much fluid your are taking in. With my Transplant, after 33 years, he started me on a very low dose of Losartan to help so there is not as much stress on my transplant. It does fluctuate for me. I tend to drink way more fluid in the summer but then when the winter comes around, i guess it's just natural i back off on the fluid intake because i'm not as hot and dry etc. Other lab tests can tell the Dr. if it's that or there is an issue. Good Luck
That’s me right now! It’s pretty hard to drink consistently especially now. When I went last time, I knew I was pretty dehydrated. I just didn’t drink much water. I kind of think that might be the case for me as well. My other labs looked normal.
hello thank you for your response! When I was on dialysis, yes that was one of the reasons. Now my phos has always been normal. I think it’s uric acid. They never check it anymore but it was high for me before. I think that might be causing the itchiness esp when I eat a lot of restaurant food!
Doc says it’s high and wants to do a 24hr urine test now. If still elevated, I need to take the blood pressure medicine. My bp is 110/70 sometimes low 60s. Hoping that I don’t have to go down that route.
I’m wondering if there’s anything natural I can do.. like take out all protein from my diet.
yes that’s what I was thinking. They had never done it at this clinic!!!! Ofc I didn’t even know about it until I checked my past lab results. I am low key frustrated at the lack of care and system. I really want to change places but .. it’s complicated.
My protein jumped to .75 one week retested went vack to .25 where it was before and after transplant, then week after jumped to .75 again then back down to .25 and stayed there.Sometimes otger reasons why protein flucuates.Yeah sticks arent accurate
I actually got the protein/creat test done and it’s around 526. It’s above normal. I should be around 0-200mg.. doctor wants to do more test. I don’t know what it hasn’t been done for the last 5 years. It was around 60-85 back then.
