Just a quick question, I was wondering if anyone else has suffered with post op fluid collections, I am constantly filling up, I am 3 weeks post transplant today and had a drain fitted last Friday and removed Tuesday but have since ballooned again. I had a scan today which has showed a large collection around the kidney again and now they are talking about putting a 'window" into my stomach? I just wondered I anyone else has suffered anything like this? Feeling extremely annoyed today 😒 and extremely large, thanks in advance for any info xxx

I totally understand your frustration! That first year after a transplant is an adventure you didn't want to go on but get to. I know wirh me my stomach hangs and I have a pocket that keeps filling with fluid its been drained twice. I need to have the hanging stomach (pannus is the medical term) removed. Just try to not let this being you down and find things to bring a smile on your face. Do they know why this is happening? Our body's sometimes have a mind of your own and like to keep us on our toes. Remember to breath and be thankfull even when you want to scream, cry, and punch someone. You can always do all of those things too if it will make you feel better. Please keep updating on how things are going. Hugs
My legs were very swollen —edema— about a week after transplant and continued to swell. I was first prescribed Lasix which helped very little. I was then started on Torsimide 20mg and that is what helped. The nephrologist said it was my body getting used to new kidney. I took it for about 3 weeks for my legs to look normal.
So glad they found the right drug and Torsimide is stronger than Lasix and is know to work better. Do you still have to take it? I have to tale spironolactone 3 times a week to combat the swelling from prednisone I am on but my swelling was not bad just make my socks leave marks on my feet and my legs had slight swelling.
I had fluid collection as well, only a little around my kidney, but more around the abdomen. They said the part around my kindney was not dangerous since it was so small, thankfully. I”m 9 months out. They did an ultrasound in the ER last month and it’s still there, ick, but stable, Otherwise it can damage the kidney, crush it or affect blood supply to it. As for the other part, they said if they drain it you often end up with infection and to leave be, it would take 3-4 months to reabsorb, which it did.
