Does anyone in the UK know or have any information regarding the 4th vaccine, my GP has no idea and I have asked my renal nurse and she doesn’t know either.
I’m 8 years post transplant, 3 primary vaccines , last one was 3 and a half months ago.

Don't feel too bad as, here in the States, I ran into some confusion as well. My doctor did approve the fourth vaccine (e.g. 3 primary followed by a booster). However, CVS/Walgreens' pharmacists were not authorized to dispense it. After some "fuss" a physicians assistant had no problem giving me the vaccine. Quick note: I did have more of a response to the 4th dose — more achiness at least.
I tell ya, it really frustrating when one's considered "high priority for the COVID vaccination," and yet no one is authorized to give it despite the CDCs recommendation.
Best Wishes on getting your vax soon 😀 Also, look into Evusheld. It is a prophylactic/pre exposure med. Someone on this forum already wrote about it. Considering there are 7-10 million immunocompromised in U.S., the gov only ordered 1.2 million doses. Yikes!
Thank you for taking the time to reply. So very frustrating, I have felt overlooked on so many occasions in the last 2 years .
I have been shielding along with my husband who was my donor for 23 months now so obviously I am desperate for anything that will help me/us to lead a more normal life.
My best wishes to you .
Congrats on 23 months 😀 I'm about 16 months. Your spouse sounds awesome! I've found there are few gifts, if any, that are greater than a living kidney donation. My wife and I were part of a paired-kidney exchange. She takes great care in protecting our household from COVID.
Yes, we too long for a return to something of a normal life. There is a very short list of people in our bubble. My mom, wife, and myself. Unless one's in the monastery this is not cool! And, even in the monastery there's a sense of community.
I think I may have misled you, I’m nearly 9 years post transplant and nearly 2 years shielding.I’m glad you’re being well looked after by your mum and wife.
I agree about the monastery 😉
Dear Dogan,
As a Transplant Patient myself, in July 2013, my 'Understanding' is this.... People in the 'Vulnerable Group' need THREE Vaccinations Plus a Booster. I had my last Vaccine in November 2021 and Planned on 'Asking', about a Booster, in February. It seems unclear quite how long, after the third 'Jab', the Booster will be given.
Personally I have found the 'System' DOES work well, well in my case anyway.... I have had Three Covid Jabs, a 'Flu Jab and a Pneumonia one too. Have you tried calling the Covid Helpline 119? (quite a few Number Pushes but, they are, very good, once you actually Get Through.)
Finally can I send you, a Fellow Transplantee, my very best wishes for a Happy New Year 2022.
AndrewT
Thank you so much, and my best wishes to you also.I received my 3rd Phizer primary vaccine on the 6th October and I have yet to hear or get any info from GP or renal nurse.
Hi, I’m with Guy’s in my London I was offered and had the 4th jab early January. Plus I have been offered - should I need it - the new antiviral drug that’s been developed .
I did a trial with the Melody study at Kings London - you can Google it and join it to test for antibodies . I did it after the 4th jab and the result was negative . This wasn’t offered by Guys it’s a sepperste research project . My nephrologist was unaware of it. He said he didn’t know which antibodies they were looking for amd that it didn’t necessarily mean I had no immunity.
My kidney clinic are supposed to be sending me a covering letter to confirm I'm eligible for the 4th dose.
From the NHS vaccine booking website:
Boosters (4th doses) at walk-in sites
If you or your child are eligible for a booster (4th dose), you can go to any walk-in vaccination site that is offering boosters if you have a letter from a GP or hospital specialist inviting you for either a 3rd dose or a booster (4th dose) for people with a severely weakened immune system.
You must take your letter with you to the walk-in site. Please also check that the site is offering vaccines for your or your child’s age group.
Thanks to all for your help, rang 119, thanks to AndrewT for that, they we’re really helpful.Went to my GP , obtained a copy of my 3 rd primary dose letter, took that to a walk in chemist and was given a Moderna booster shot, now fingers crossed for antibodies 🙏🙏
Hi - in the States here but my transplant recommended both the 4th jab 5 months post 3rd jab and also Evusheld. Haven't gotten yet as not quite 5 months and Evusheld being held for "fresher" transplants and cancer patients where I live (I'm 7 months out). Hope this helps
