My son is in the hospital. 4 years post transplant . Possible rejection. Entered hospital with creatine level of 5.1. Put him on antibiotics and steroids. Then had plasmaphyesis. Creatine level was 7.4 after treatment . He is 35. Having second treatment today. I think the p!an is to continue treatment in the hopes the level will go down .Biopsy is Monday and will determine damage. Has anyone recovered from something like this enough to survive without without dialysis? He was on for 6 years pre transplant . I am hopeful but scared. I know he is so depressed. If you have gone through this please respect nd. Thank you so much. Mom
Is there a chance?: My son is in the... - Kidney Transplant
Is there a chance?
I don't have any experience to share but wanted to reach out in the cyber space to hold your hands tight. As a mom you must be frighted, but try not be, they are treating him aggressively right now. Please stay with him to calm him, let him know it takes a few days to see a change. I hope they do a biopsy sooner but maybe there is an infection they must treat first. How often does he get his CMP checked? Did his creatinine jump from less than 1.5 to 5.1 suddenly, or was there a gradual increase over a few weeks?
The biopsy had to wait because he takes a baby aspirin. 7 day period to get out of his blood stream.
After biopsy tomorrow I think they will be able to develop a more specific treatment to successfully reverse his transplant injury. Stay hopeful and be well.
How did Joe's biopsy go?
They pushed it back to Tuesday. He was having Severe pain and they suspected kidney stones but the results showed nothing. They think the pain is because of the rejection. Still have hope.
A month after I got my kidney I had the same think happen. Was in the hospital 2 weeks . My creating eventually went down ,had 7 plasmaphyesis several iv treatments eventually mine Creatine went down. I am 8 months out now . I wish your son the very best .
I have not been to the circumstances had my transplant January 2021. Please be positive and there is definitely power in prayer😊
Dear Mom,
Yes there IS a CHANCE, though I honestly can't Tell you the 'Odds'. Kidneys are very 'Strange' Organs, capable of 'Fully Functioning' at only Twenty Percent--- and seemingly not Functioning 'At All' at Seventy+ Percent.
As a Confirmed Christian I, like Redbone55, Believe in, The Power Of Prayer- even if you Don't have a Faith, in Jesus, are you not a Humanitarian? Can you not Offer A Prayer, on that basis- Let alone that he Is Your Son?
I Know that all OUR Prayers are with you- along with our Love.

Hello Joekidney, Thanks for letting us know what is happening with your son and how he is doing and you too. My spouse has the kidney transplant and I'm his wife who oversees his health when needed. We have gone through many shaky things in 2.5 yrs post transplant but not this exact situation. I will add you both to my prayer list, there is power in people asking for divine intervention to heal your son's health. It sounds like his doctors are doing things as fast as they can to help your son. hugs to you both. I care.
Thank you so much.
Joekidney, when I am feeling very low and sad over things with my husband's kidney function, I find that having others knowing and showing/conveying their empathy helps in some small way. I sincerely hope using this weblink you know I care and others do too.
Joe did so well after his transplant, I just felt his luck had finally changed. The info and support from this site is opening my eyes to the struggles so many have and I appreciate so much more the good years he had. Although I am still hopeful and praying, there has been no good changes thus far.
I will keep you and Joe in my mind and prayers often that something positive changes. A corner of hope reveals itself very soon so you are not "holding your breath" all the time. I find that most people do not understand how you feel or I feel, and they mean well, but they have not gone through an ordeal similar in life. Not their fault. I truly care about you and Joe.
