Is young age a good factor?

I am on the site due to my son's kidney disease. We are rejoicing! A relative is donating her kidney to my son on July 31! So less then 2 weeks away. We are hopeful due to his young age and no underlying conditions and a living donor that his prognosis is good?!? Any experiences that are close to this I would love to hear about! Looking for some good news!

First off huge congrats to your son and your whole family! If the relative donating the kidney is close to his age and has the same blood type (which they should if they're donating directly to him) I imagine your son will have a good prognosis. It depends on several factors though, such as how well he takes care of the new kidney by taking his medications on time every day, eating well, keeping up with labs and water intake, and getting plenty of exercise. His transplant team would be your best source of information on this topic since they know more about your son and the donor.

Well yes certainly having youth on his side is going to be a huge advantage in terms of rapid recovery and likelihood of the new kidney lasting a long time. Good luck to you all.

Qdog, best to your family on the 31st. I will keep this short. When I had my transplant at 22-years old because of lupus, the doctors said age was one of the best things that were in my favor as well as the very good match from my 19-yr old sister. That was June 25, 1981 -both of us are well and stronger because of it. Hoping the very best for your son as well.

Yes younger the age greater are the chances of withstanding the surgical stress ( apart from the degree of match)

I am no expert, but I think he will do great. What a wonderful thing. I wish your family the very best. Just has to be very good about taking meds forever. I will pray for your son.

yea young age is a good factor i got transplant 3 years ago when i was 21 yrs old.. and many doctors said me that it is good age because body reacts goods but mainly reports of your child and the donors matter and after obviously doctors go for best so congratulations and i pray for your son good luck😊
