Neutropenia?

Hi All -

I have reached the 10 week post transplant mark this week! Feeling great (body has adjusted to Prograf), but now I am dealing with neutropenia.

Current Meds

- Prograf: 3mg in AM, 3mg in PM

- Myfortic: 180mg x 2 daily (reduced from 540x2 daily when WBCs started to drop)

- Bactrim ( switched to Mepron when WBCs started to drop, but did not tolerate GI side effects)

- Valcyte

Had blood drawn this morning and clinic called this evening to tell me that they will be making more med adjustments and working to get prior authorization for Neupogen. Until then, I am back to quarantine. This is hard because I was hoping to go back to work next week.

Has anyone experienced neutropenia shortly after transplant? If so, how long did it take to resolve?

Thanks!

Yes, I did. Mine didn't start till I was about 8 months post transplant. Dr. thought perhaps my new kidney was not telling my bone marrow to produce more red blood cells. Dr. started me on weekly injections of Epogen. I don't think it was even 6 months and it corrected itself. No problems with this since
