I got my transplant 3 yrs ago from my father with 50 percentage match. Creatinine started rising after an yr and reached 2.2, then biopsy was done which revealed side effect of tacrolimus. Doctor reduced tacrolimus but creatinine continued to rise and reached 18 when I started plasmapheresis and dialysis. Has anyone recovering from such condition?

Transplant Failure due to Tacrolimus
Hi Ashok,
how much tacrolimus do you take?
your doctor may reduce the dosage of tacrolimus or change to sirolimus
.
your present creatinine is 1.8 or 18?
plasmapheresis is done if there is antibody mediated rejection
.
where are you in India?
Hi Balap
I am in Vadodara and got a transplant 3 yrs ago at Apollo Ahmadabad. I used to take 1.5mg tacrolimus twice a day with mycofenolate and 5mg omnacortil. I had episode of pancreatitis, again due to tacrolimus and then it was reduced to 1mg. But creatinine kept rising. Tacrolimus was further reduced to 0.5mg and then stopped. Biopsy suggested anti body mediated rejection when my creatinine was 18. I got plasmapheresis and dialysis. I am now asked to get dialysis twice a week and look for any recovery in urine output and kidney function for 1 month.
I'm sorry to hear your loss. I'm from Chennai. I'm nearly 6yrs post transplant. Recent biopsy showed mild antibody mediated rejection. so planning for Plasmapheresis, IVIG and Rituximab. I want to talk to you. My cell: 8248 399 714
reduction of tacrolimus may cause rejection. So, tacrolimus should not be reduced without checking tacrolimus level. After reducing tacrolimus dosage, again tacrolimus level should be re-checked.
Transplant Failure due to Tacrolimus happens only after 10-15 years of taking Tacrolimus
