Doctor switching me from tacrolimus to sirolius as apparently tacro damaged my new kidney and now they worried about it's long term effects on kidney ad biopsy showed damage of 50 to 60 % ..Anyways after suffering thru all the side effects of the tacro and just feeling normal again,I'm wondering what do I have to look forward to switching to the sirolius.ie side effects, level fluctuations.Ive read all the literature but information from people actually on it would be more helpful. Also on 5mg pred a day and 720mg of mycrophenolate.

Hi Parkerbarker - I was switched from tac/mmf to sirolimus, low dose pred, and belatacept about 9 months ago. The major negative side effect I experienced was mouth sores, which for me, appears to be dose related. I also now take cholesterol medicine and a potassium pill, neither was needed on the tac/mmf regimine. The potassium pill keeps me in normal range and I can eat all the potassium rich foods I like. Hair is a little thicker than is was on the tac/mmf regimen though. I hope this helps. as I’m sure you know, your experience may be entirely different.

Ps- I was switched due to racing heart beat caused by tac, which was completely corrected with the med switch.

Best wishes,

D

Actually, many patients on sirolimus don't develop high cholesterols. It is a good reminder to eat healthy, exercise frequently, and get checked up on your cardiometabolic parameters which in turn, will enable a healthy and long life.

I just started sirolimus last week in place of my prednisone which i am now tapering and will stop. I will just be taking cyclosporine and sirolimus.
