I am almost 9 weeks post op of donating my left kidney and I wonder if others who have donated can tell me how long did it take to have no more abdominal pain when coughing, sneezing, sitting up in bed, etc?

Hello Catsrkool - Congratulations on saving someone's life by donating a kidney!

My donation was over 18 years ago so I can't be very specific, but I've had a more recent abdominal surgery done the same way and my recovery was a bit less than where you are today. Everyone is different For some people, certain symptoms last longer than others, as it appears with you. I would just check back with your surgeon or perhaps even a nurse in the office to confirm and make an appointment if possible to discuss.

Hope things improve quickly.

Thank you for your response. I will reach out to the doctor’s team to see what they say.

I’m almost 3 years post op. I remember healing didn’t feel like a “linear” experience — I went up and down from feeling really great to regressing a little and feeling some pain again. I remember about 2-3 months post-op regretting lifting my carryon suitcase into the overhead bin as it felt a bit painful, so I’d say you’re not off track. I don’t recall exactly when it stopped but I promise it did :) Congrats on your donation and hope you feel back to yourself soon.
