On 1/7 my regular labs showed hemoglobin at 7.9. In Dec it was 10.5 and Nov was 11.0 so a decline. I was getting Mircera at 100 mg but they increased it to 150 mg. Retested and it had dropped to 7.5. One of the roaming docs came by and said I needed a transfusion so she called my husband and had him take me to the ER. Got a pint of blood and they found I had an UTI with no symptoms so they also gave me antibiotics. Spent the night in the hospital....I'm now calling it Chez Freeman.
I had been feeling pretty bad but didn't realize as it seemed to go with being on dialysis but the unit of blood perked me right up. Unfortunately my BP was and still was at dialysis on Thur. I had a massively bad headache when I left even with the Tylenol they gave me.
Went home, drank some coffee, at some food and a couple hours later felt much better. My BP is back down today (Friday) and I feel a world better. They did retest me but I won't get the results back until Sat.
I'm still waiting on Feb 9th to stop the blood thinner and restart the process to get back active on the list however I think the transfusion will affect that. I also need to once again reschedule the mammogram.

girl seen me and you can’t stay of if hospital went for graft didn’t happen went in V- tach after anesthesia so last weekend monitoring in hospital went and got heart monitor today hope your uti is gone
LOL didn't even know I had one. You've had a much harder time th an me. Of course they wanted to keep me but the nurse came by and took out the IV so no meds. My BP this morning was 107/70 so it's back to normal.
oh boy.... yes I get it with the hemoglobin and hemocrit. I will refuse a transfusion because in my center, it's a big no no to transplant. I hope they look the other way for you. Please hang in there. Man what a ride you are on.
If I didn't feel like I'd been hit by a truck I probably would have. They even called my husband from the center to take me to the ER. I've almost resigned myself to no transplant given every time I get close to being able to be active again something happens to push me further away. So far I feel pretty good on hemo but driving in to work 3 days a week is starting to get hard and I'm looking at disability.
Oh do go on disability. YOu deserve a break and it takes a while to get it. Don't give up on the transplant. It's a goal to shoot for and have hope. They only gave you a pint which is nothing. So hang in there.
Well until the transplant people say No Way Jose....I'll keep trying.. Of course I got 4 units in 2023 when I was in the hospital and dying. All they can say is antibodies high, you're a hard match. Too bad I can't give blood...I don't weigh enough and was in Germany (Army) when the mad cow came out.
Thank you. Found out today my hemoglobin is down to 9.6 and I have blood in my stool. Got a referral to a GI doc, I'm collecting doctors like they are trading cards.
Oooh.. So sorry to hear you're back on the rollercoaster! Hang on, hang tight. Hopefully the latest findings explains why your numbers were low and there's an good and easy fix for that. Crossing all my fingers and toes for you, Horsie!
Lol the only doc I don't have in my collection is a neurologist and I'd rather pass on that one. Never thought I'd need a GI as I've not had stomach trouble and my last colonoscopy was just a few years ago and it was good.
Ask your doctor to try Oxemia (100 mg) for increasing HB levels. Have a discussion with him and see if they think this will work better than EPO injections.
