Peritoneal Dialysis for five years.

Hello, I've been on peritoneal dialysis for five years and I feel great. I'm 59 years old, female, African American. I'm very active. I teach four line dance classes every week. I attend another. I attend church regularly, and work in our Good Works minisrty. Although I do not drink, my husband and I frequent the nearby winery for dinner and dancing to live music.

If you're thriving on dialysis, let me hear your story. Thanks.

I didn't mention that I did manual transfers 4x daily before I got my machine. That helped me get use to that bloated feeling. Thanks for you response.

I was on pd for a year and half I love being able to do it at home at night . But I can honestly say say I never felt completely great on it . I got a fungal infection from the catheter surgeon said it had to come out and once a fungal infection he would not put another one in fungal infection are rare let me say that before scaring anybody. Pd I did not sleep I had so many alarms on

Machine from slow drain I was so hesitant about hemodialysis stories I heard I learn you have to listen to your body not other people stories we are all differnt in June they put a chest catheter in my chest for dialysis . In September they put fistula in my arm well that never work and Jan 17 surgery for graft they don’t like to leave the port in your chest . But on hemodialysis I feel better then I did on pd everyone said my color is better I look healthier I go three day a week for three hour session I never thought hemp would be for me but I am stronger on hemp I go to church most every Sunday . I’m able to enjoy time with friend and family . I’m waiting for the next chapter of this journey which would be to get a transplant

Thank you all for helping me on this PD journey. Your posts about your experience on PD are so helpful. I started on PD one year ago. I had 8 months of fill and drain pain and very little sleep. Every two hours when the machine hit drain, I had to reposition or jump out of bed to stretch or just walk back and forth for 15 minutes. Two months ago I had to replace the Cycler stand. My new stand is about 8 inches higher. I also started sitting with a heating pad on my abdomen during the daytime. I had two days of diarrhea. I think my catheter reposition on it's own. Suddenly I'm sleeping almost throughout the night. Almost no drain pain. Last night I slept through two complete cycles. I am so surprised to awaken and see fill 3 of 4. I had slept thru one and two, with no pain. Before, so much of my night was spent looking at the cycler screen as it slowly changed through the night. I have always felt thankful for the technology that provided me the independence of PD treatments. But suddenly it is working the way it was originally explained and promised that it would work. It's not easy. I'm 74 years old and doing this on my own, but I'm doing it and surviving. I am seeing a PD social worker every week on Zoom for help dealing with depression which helps me. I'm so thankful to my Davita team and the blessing to be living when the technology is available to provide this treatment to me. QueenGee, Thank you for your post as I feel so encouraged. I'm looking forward a great 2025. Happy and Healthy New Year to all. Blessing to the caretakers out there. Please keep them strong.
