Has anyone used pea protein powder? I can’t use whey as it’s derived from milk and I’m lactose intolerant. Thought I’d try pea protein instead as I need to gain weight and gaining muscle mass is the best way.

Pea protein
Before starting to take anything, remember to double check with your nephrologist.
I've not tried pea protein yet, if you do try it, let me know if it tastes better than the whey version, which is ok, but still makes oatmeal taste weird. I've not tried mixing it in scrambled eggs yet. It's good in smoothies if you use a ton of frozen fruit and non-dairy whip cream!
Okay Ron, I got the unflavored one but it comes in several including chocolate and strawberry. I mixed it with my coffee this morning, just one scoop as they are large and I don't drink much coffee anymore. Each scoop is 27 grams of protein, 110 grams of sodium and 100 grams potassium (from the peas). I have no idea of the phosphorus as it's not listed. The only ingredient is peas so I'm sure if peas have phos then there is some.
There isn't much taste and coffee no longer tastes all that good to me but I'll try mixing it in other things too like my rice milk which I like a lot and some green tea which I drink to get warm.
This is what I found on google: How much Phosphorus is in Pea Protein? Amount of Phosphorus in Pea Protein: Phosphorus 75mg 8%
The brand I use is Naked Pea and I got it on Amazon. If I can figure out how to post a picture I'll take one of the back. Or you could just do a search for Naked Pea and it shows the nutrition label.
My ALB is low so I've been looking for ways to increase my protein intake. In addition I'm still underweight and the best way to put on some is through muscle mass. I still can't workout while I'm still healing but maybe this will help some.
I put it in my tea and at worst it tastes a bit "card boardy". It could be the tea has no flavor on it's own. I'll see about adding to other things.
Ok, just put some of the pea protein in some oatmeal for lunch. Not too bad. Better than whey, but still has a bit of that cardboard taste that you're taking about. But I added a bit of butter and sugar and dried cranberries to help it out I'll try it in some other stuff later. One thing, the jug I received was like half full. Hard to believe that it "settled" that much during shipping. You would think they would put a bit more in it. And I had to dig around in it to find the scoop, it was totally buried.
Ok, I just ordered the 15 serving size bottle of Naked Pea unflavored. I'll give it a try in things and see how it goes. Phosphorus is in everything, I just have to pop three of these big ole binder horse pills each meal to take care of the phosphorus intake. Thanks for this reference. I'll let you know how I like it. Sure hope you can gain some weight. I think my whip cream and fruit smoothies might help Let me know of other creative uses you have for this stuff.
Luckily my phos and potassium are within limits so no binders for me. I think hemo pulls off a lot of the electrolytes in addition to the protein. I'm pretty sick of chicken but it's the easiest to cook up.
Still have a weight restriction so no lifting more than 15 pounds. I'm hoping when the 6 weeks out of the hospital is up I can start working out again. The tube site still hurts and that might last a long time so I just need to take it slow and stop if things really hurt but walking should be okay. It just doesn't really add muscle. I was up to 85 lbs yesterday which is much better than 83 lbs.
