Ok, I may have gotten some responses before, but I apologize, I've forgotten them and didn't write them down. What is your favorite high protein smoothie recipes and what kind of machine do you have to make them in?

I'll be watching this post. I'll substitute and whey with pea protein as I'm lactose intolerant. Thanks for asking this.

Hi. I haven't tried any yet, but I just bought a book called - Smoothies for Kidney Health. It starts out with a lot of great information, then gives smoothie recipes.

Do you have irritable bowel like I do? I cannot handle garlic or regular onions. Green onion is ok, this. I like bananas plain and in smoothies because it does help my acid reflux. I blend it with spinach, and you don't even taste the greens. I just Google smoothies and get all kinds of ideas. I have not been eating enough veggies, so smoothies are the way to go

So I didn't do a ton of research, but just made the decision to buy a Ninja® Fit Personal Single-Serve Blender, Two 16-oz. Cups, QB3000SS from WalMart for $49.00. It just came today, so I've not made anything with it, but it's very cute and small and looks very easy to clean (a huge plus for us lazy types). Now I'm off to the store to buy some frozen fruit and liquid egg whites and other stuff and make a few from recipes I found on the Davita website. Not sure how I'll like those using veggies. I'll find out and I'll post the results later. Smoothies for Kidney Health offered by ArtgirlZ sounds like a good book as well. Will have to check that out.

Made my first smoothie. Thought I'd start with something simple that I knew would taste good, though not the best, health wise :-) This has a bunch of potassium because the protein source is liquid egg whites. It was VERY good, so a positive first start. Now to try other protein sources that might not be quite so tasty but with less potassium:

davita.com/diet-nutrition/r...

Ingredients

3/4 cup fresh strawberries

1/2 cup liquid pasteurized egg whites

1/2 cup ice

1 tablespoon sugar

Preparation:

Place strawberries in blender and blend until smooth.

Add all remaining ingredients and continue blending until smooth.

Helpful hints:

Pasteurized liquid egg white is safe to consume without cooking.

If substituting frozen fruit add 1/4 cup water instead of the 1/2 cup ice. The degree of “frozenness” will determine how much your blender will be able to take. It will also give a more “soft serve” consistency than a smoothie, which is great in the warmer season.

Adjust sugar or low calorie sweetener to taste.

Good start! You can use a high protein plant Greek Yogurt in place of egg whites. Try a 1/2 cup ,then suit to taste. You can even throw in a handful of spinach or a fruit in there, too.
