About a year ago I was trying to get on the transplant list. As part of the medical workup for a transplant, I was diagnosed with hystoplasmosis. Taking the medication to resolve this, I suffered all the side effects of the medication. My health severely declined, but I am healthy now and ready to try again but afraid this hystoplasmosis is still there in my lung and a transplant wont be in my future so I was wondering if anyone else has come across this?

ladyhawk,

I am just starting through transplant eligibility myself right now and so have yet to learn if they’ll find something that either knocks me out of eligibility or will have to be resolved before they will approve me for a transplant.

I’m looking at this process as a very thorough medical work-up. That’s a good thing. If I’ve got anything else going on I’d like it to be found and put under treatment.

If I don’t qualify for a transplant, I really haven’t lost anything. I’ll proceed to dialysis. (I’m not on dialysis yet but have been in Stage v for nearly 3 years now.) I expect I’ll have a good experience with dialysis; life will go on and be as good as I choose to make it.

My father had chronic kidney disease. I never knew him when he didn’t have CKD. He loved life and lived it to the fullest. He took care of himself. We made modifications (dietary and scheduling) to accommodate his medical treatment plan. My mother was masterful at doing both. This was our normal as I grew up.

From my father I certainly learned, and saw on a daily basis, that we can live well with CKD. He was ultimately on in home hemodialysis. My mother and I were his care partners. I have no doubt that both my dad and mom would point out the many wonderful advances in dialysis that have occurred over the interim 30 years since he passed away.

So from my perspective we have several viable treatment options for stage v renal failure. If one isn’t an option for me I’ll move on to the next option and do my best to channel my dad and make the best of life with CKD🐶

I’m not sure what God has in store for me with all of this; however, I do know that God’s got this🐶 My job is to explore all viable treatment options. Do my best to take care of myself. Work in collaboration with my medical team advocating for myself when necessary (in a collegial manner). And be ready to embrace any viable treatment option.

We’ve got this!
