I received the results of a blood test, and my B Natriuaetic Peptides are 119.0 mg/ml. I assume this is not good. Are my days numbered? I eat right, little carbs, little, if any sugars, no alchohol. I mainly protein, like fish and beef. Rarely a salad. No breakfast cereals other than occasional oatmeal or grits. Eggs and bacon. Diabetes runs in my family on my mother's side. What should I be doing now?

BNP results

From the internet:
"B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) is a hormone produced by the heart that helps regulate blood pressure and fluid balance. It is often measured in blood tests to diagnose or assess the severity of heart failure, as higher levels indicate that the heart is under stress and not pumping effectively."
Also: "Since BNP is cleared by your kidneys, it may also mean that your kidneys are not functioning properly."
BUT it's unusual for the test to be ordered unless heart failure is suspected. Also are you sure your level is higher than normal? The internet says that below 125 is normal for younger people and below 450 is normal if you're over 75.
Look at your creatine levels, when they are high you have kidney trouble. Kidneys fail with no obvious symptoms until they are functioning at maybe 20% of normal, and the failure can't be reversed. Not so the heart- you would have symptoms like breathlessness, getting tired easily, and there's lots you can do to make your heart healthier.
You should ask whoever ordered the blood test.
ALSO, everybody's days are numbered, but your number could easily be as high as the sky.
ALSO, if you're worried about your health, you should move towards a Mediterranean type diet- lots of fruits and veggies, fish and lean meat, whole grains, not too many processed foods. Like that.
