I am female age 70, non smoker, 3 beer a week, borderline chlorestrol no high blood pressure, need a bladder lift and just found out I have stage 3 kidney disease. No family history of kidney disease. I am sick with worry…I don’t take any medication, no prescription or non prescription. I don’t take pain medication. Can others please tell me how you deal with your stage 3 and how long it’s been that way?

We've managed my mum's stage 3 ckd for 14y via Nutritional Therapy, without drugs.

You may find the comment “With treatment and healthy life changes, many people in Stage 3 do not move to Stage 4 or Stage 5” comforting. It's from the link below.

do you know if you’ve had your calcium, vit d, phosphate and parathyroid bloods all checked at same blood draw? This is to check if any of your 4 x tiny calcium regulating PARAthyroid glands (NOT same as the thyroid) are faulty. If they are then this condition (hyperparathyroidism) can cause kidney issues among very many whole body symptoms.

It’s how calcium and parathyroid levels relate to each other that really matters as neither must be high only have lost their inverse (one up and one down like a seesaw) relationship. This is sadly overlooked, misunderand very under diagnosed yet it’s a treatable/curable condition.

I speak as someone who had this condition misdiagnosed/understood for several years before I eventually found a surgeon who knew what was wrong, he removed two rogue glands. My eGFR is rising again thankfully 🤞🏻

Hi there try not to worry I was diagnosed with stage 3 last year went into worrying as you are, read loads asked medical processionals dietitian etc. The advice I was given was to cut down salt on food, not cook with salt etc, & healthy balanced diet, it’s an idea to check labels it’s surprising how much salt is in some products. I’m the same age as you I know how you feel it’s a shock to be told these things, best wishes for the future take care

I also am stage 3 and there are many reasons for ckd. To much antibiotics or pain killers, foods etc. Mine was Diuretics. I am stable now with a low salt and special diet. Good luck!

Please look at your labs before going on any diet. And get your doctor's okay for modifications and monitor you. Sodium is an electrolyte. If you take too much out, it's very easy to pass out. I did that. Extremism re sodium and other electrolytes isn't good for kidneys. Keeping things in the normal range is great.

I joined the National Kidney Federation and they sent a booklet with good and bad foodstuff. I stopped the bad foodstuff and my numbers rose to mid 50's.My consultant said I don't have to watch my food yet but I still do. I was 3a thanks to medications!!!!

Have you discussed age related kidney decline. I have previously shared several articles on this site. With no traditional causes, diabetes, high blood pressure, nsaids or other known causes, age related decline is possible and common.

Hi barbara55109, Since I’m not trained in this area of medicine I was reluctant to say anything but was thinking it. Thank you.

I was diagnosed 6 years ago with Chronic Kidney Disease 3b and placed on a CKD Diet based on blood levels of Phosphorus, Potassium, Sodium and Protein. The diet has helped stabilize the condition. I am a senior over 80. Welcome to the forum. You have reached a good forum for sharing information and get support. Keep us posted.

Kidney doctor use the Creatinine level in the blood to help determine how bad your kidneys are, a couple of other things IA the blood also ,Urea is another.I,remember this is just me, use a uric acid cleanser, my kidneys only put out about 19%.
