Using Nutritional Therapy, my mum was able to initially improve her egfr very significantly despite her nephrologist's reservations. She was also able to wean off a BP drug. Egfr is a bit lower now but we are aiming to at least keep her at stage 3 with the same approach 🤞🤞
Ive previously posted on this forum a scientific report which states stage 3 should generally not worsen with proper treatment and that's our view/hope.
Nutrition & lifestyle offer far more promise than drugs for ckd, at least directly.
I was exactly the same.My consultant, blood cancers, wrote to the consultant for kidneys and I've had a few appointments.
After the initial appointment I joined the NFK and they sent me a load of information which included foods to avoid.
I cut them out of my diet and I went up to a reading of 55!!!!!
Give it a try. Mind you, it'll be a lot of your favourite foods too I expect you'll have to cut out😁😁
Worth a try.
Welcome to our group Tulip. There is a plethora of information here on this site. On the right hand side you should see categories to look at. There is also a ton of info on National Kidney Foundation. And yes, you can with diet and healthy lifestyle keep CKD from declining rapidly.
Please take a good look at your labs and pay attention to anything that is flagged. Then, return to your doctor and ask for guidance how to bring those items back into the normal range. Guidance may involve medications, dietary substitutions, etc. It's also valuable to know the underlying reason for your situation - kidneys simply don't decline "out of the blue". The two main causes are diabetes and high blood pressure. There are others. Knowing the "driver", will give you focus and direction. Then, with regular blood draws, you'll be able to track the trend and keep your body (and kidneys) in optimal shape. I sense you'll be successful!
I was stage 4 CKD, we’ve kept my blood sugar in normal range. Eat cut up fresh fruit, green. Smoothies with Dark green leafy vegetables and yogurt. Drink sugar free hot chocolate, Nestles 5 gm carbs.
My gfr has gone from 21 up to 34, now I’m stage 3b. So hope it keeps going up!😊
I am stage 4 CKD and have been since 1996 when an ER doc made a huge error in treatment and caused me to flatline in the ER plus spend 6 months in the ICU…I had been diagnosed with CKD on 8 February, went to the ER because of CKD symptoms, doc tapped my abdomen on 16 February and drained 75Lbs of fluid off of my mid-section in 4 days….that caused metabolic acidosis, toxic shock and multi-organ failure. Coded in the ER exam room, ER doc stood paralyzed as a 5’ nothing 90 lbs nurse straddled me and jammed a breathing tube down my throat…I was in and out, also I’m sure my memories have been skewed due to nearly no heart beat and losing consciousness but I so vividly remember her on my chest knees on my shoulders raising up and down vigorously so she could force that tube in my throat to get some air to my lungs. She was the first to save my life in that hospital…at least 5/6 more nurses and docs would work tirelessly to ensure I got to walk out of the ICU…7 months in the hospital, 6 months in convalescence at home and 6 months trying to get back to some kind of normal….as an indicator of how sick I was I’ll give you my first creatinine reading on labs done on me in the ICU on the first day creatinine was 11.5, bun nearly 70. It was ‘96 so eGFR (at least in Little Rock, AR USA was not a typical lab tested for.
Anyway, sorry for my personal digressions probably more than most wanted or cared to know or especially read, so thanks for the indulgence! Sometimes life can smack you in the face, maybe God wanted to get my attention, well he did…lol!
Thanks not trying to claim my issues were or are any better or worse than anyone else…just something that was life impacting in a never forget sorta way and sometimes I can’t help myself I relive the memories and they still seem so clear as if they were last week, (even though it’s nearly 30 years ago
it is possible for your labs to go up and down during your journey with this condition.
