I am 76 year old male. All blood parameters normal. No protein in urine, no diabetes, no problem with BP. All electrolytes are ok.My creatinine has been around 1.9 since last 5 years. I did not test blood before that. The other day I checked Cystatin C and it came very close to normal. What does this mean. Any idea

It means that you are about to go down the same rabbit hole as I have for the past 8 years, and I'm 10 years younger. Normal Cystatin-C, and higher than normal creatinine. The combined formula gives me an eGFR of 69, which is technically stage 2 ckd. My creatinine gives me an eGFR of 48 and my cystatin-c gives me an eGFR of 86, which is all very screwy.

I would think it means relax and enjoy life! But I’m not a doctor of medicine - so ask your doctor.

have you been diagnosed with ckd? is it the higher-than-normal creatinine level? what about egfr levels?

I am not sure, because creatinine is 1.9 and based on creatinine egfr is around 35.

But since all other parameters are normal, I am not sure.

My nephro has said that many times creatinine goes up with age and nothing to worry. Just monitor to make sure that levels are stable

I’m quite new at this game…but I’d say for your age and considering you have good Bp and no diabetes you sound like you’re doing well. Chat with your GP for reassurance. Hugs to you x
