Could this pain be a kidney stone?

Morning.

I have had a pain in my lower abdomen for the past week - it runs in a straight vertical line to the right of my navel down to my groin and feels like a hard rope directly where the pain is. I assumed it was a pulled muscle and have ignored it but it’s not getting better. I will get to the GP as soon as I can this week but wanted to ask if my lack of fever, nausea, vomiting etc could point to it NOT being a stone?

Added worry is that I’m flying to New Zealand in 19 days . . .

Thanks for reading

We are not doctors. But if you have a stone, it could do a lot of damage so make sure you get to the doctor. Next time, do not wait so long.

Just my thoughts: Stones do not last for a week usually. The pain comes on fast when they travel and can be very intense. I know, I had them not-stop for two years. Again, I am not a doctor but the location and type of pain, it sounds more like a hernia.

Many thanks for your reply. You make a good point about a hernia, it had crossed my mind but I didn’t think pain was ‘a thing’ with a hernia. It sounds as though a stone is agony and mine isn’t but it is very tender on palpation or certain movements.

I shall definitely be asking for a GP appt tomorrow! Thanks again

Oh my gosh, I could’ve written this post because I have the exact same kind of pain! I was thinking muscular or maybe even pulled scar tissue from my transplant. A hernia did cross my mind as well although I can’t feel anything popping out when I cough. I’m definitely going to get it checked out. Keep me informed regarding what they find. Sorry you’re going through this too.

Hi. I’ve spent ages googling the ‘possibles’ and I think the most likely is a pulled muscle. I have been coughing a lot after a bad cold last month. I shall contact the GP anyway. Good luck with yours, please also share your outcome xx

Just know that it has been my experience with a kidney stone that the pain is excruciating! By this I mean it is similar to labor. I went to the Emergency Room when I had mine because I could not handle the pain. To me, if you are not going for medical care "yesterday" it could be a hernia. I got a hernia in my transplant incision and it caused "nerve pain." That pain was intense, but not like a kidney stone.

You do need to find out what is going on ASAP.

There are like eight different kinds of hernias, with inguinal, umbilical, hiatal being the most common. I bet it's likelier you have a hernia than a kidney stone. I've had two stones and mine were relatively small. I wouldn't wish that pain on my worst enemy.
