I don't have any tips, just wanted to say sorry about the dx. Eating good for CKD is opposite to what is eating good for diabetes.

Jodaer is correct - your primary concern is the diabetes so look for a dietician that has a good grasp for diabetes who can focus on all of your issues - cardiac, kidneys, etc. Also look for a great endocrinologist with specialization in diabetes. Make sure both are given your labs. The main threat for diabetes patients is cardiac and vascular disease from over-the-top glucose levels. Those vascular issues also affect the filtration in your kidneys. It seems you are gathering a good team round you so I trust you'll be stabilized soon.

HI Dillow, I went back to look at some of your posts. You said you were prediabetic. Diabetes 1 is a usually on set earlier in life. Are you sure your type 1?

Pre-diabetes can develop into Type 2 diabetes, which can be managed by diet or metformin. Type 1 diabetes is autoimmune and has no "pre" development phase. Treatment for Type 1 is insulin. Are you sure your diagnoses have not been mixed up? You are quite right in saying that a diabetic diet differs from a renal diet, my partner is like you and has to juggle foods to see what gives the best test results. Having conditions that require differing diets is complicated! Hope you manage to work something out that suits you.

Just an aside.I was diagnosed as T2 diabetic 40 years ago. Initial oral medication and diet and periods of non-compliance didn't hold me overly well.

By the time I was put on Insulin, I was told my Pancreas was shot and no longer produced its own insulin.

Since that time, I've noticed that the wording on my medical varies, between T2 or T1 and more laterly, last 5 years T 1.5 (for non-producers) so I'm told.

Not sure if anyone else has experienced this . . ?

I'm also CKD Stage III.

I've been advised to follow Diabetic diet, over a CKD diet, as its more important to keep the blood glucose under control.

all i know for sure is that they told me i was type 1 .no other medical personnel did and the term pre diabetic was only used in passing..i was given insulin at the hospital and metformin when i got home.still confused

I suspect you were probably given an antibody test and a c-peptide test to confirm your type of diabetes. If so, the diagnosis is likely to be correct.

i was.i did a little bit of searching and learned they are giving metformin to t 1 patients on a trial basis to see if it helped with the insulin somehow

My sil is a T-1 diabetic and in the last year or so they have put him on metformin along with his insulin. Are you still on insulin or only metformin? I think when you're in the hospital they give you insulin.

i was strictly insulin in the hospital and when i got home they started me on metformin for a month until i see doctor.i think ill probably wind up back on it

Maybe not, metformin is an excellent choice for diabetes and also CKD as long as you're Stage 3.
