I am going to moan - big time - because I am getting to the point where I don't know which way to turn. I have Hashimotos Thyroiditis, Arthritis, Pernicious Anaemia, Hypertension, Coeliac disease and now some unexplained kidney problem. I have had an MRI which has shown a problem but I don't know what because my GP didn't send my scan results to the nephrologist I was told to go and see so he couldn't help at all. He did arrange for me to have a urine sample tested - that was 2 weeks ago - I cannot obtain the results of that even though I have phoned several times and been promised them and I now have an appointment with my GP Monday and yet again, with no urine test result she will be working in the dark. Aaaargh. I have stopped taking turmeric paste because it can be diuretic and now ache all over - I would normally take Ibuprofen but from reading up on here about kidney disease (assuming that's what it is!!) I shouldn't take NSAIDS. I read that I shouldn't have potassium but on the other hand bananas help with high blood pressure. I shouldn't eat processed bread but, as anyone gluten free knows, gf bread contains loads of rubbish and I have no alternative available. I cannot decide whether to scream or cry - probably a combination of both - sometimes life can be really rotten. Anyone any ideas about what I can do to improve my health - what painkillers it's safe to take, supplements I should take/avoid???
Never ending problems: I am going to moan... - Kidney Disease
Never ending problems
Hey Loobs39.Have a scream 😱 release the tension.
I am in a similar position, having multiple chronic conditions and having been diagnosed with stage III Kidney Disease just last year.
Please God you don't have the same and it's something that can be treated and resolved 🙏. Sadly my KD can not, next stage = dyalysis.
My food issue arises as I am a long term unstable diabetic on Insulin. A diabetic diet is pretty much the opposite as the diet prescribed for kidney disease.
Yes, Bannanas and a lot of other fruits are out, and say adios to anything with salt in it.
Brown bread is frowned upon by the Nephrologists dietician, so bring on the white sliced from yesteryear.
Fizzy drinks, especially the dark coloured ones are the 👹 incarnate.
I also have heart issues and have 3 stents.
When I eventually sought advise about the opposing diets, I was told by my Cardiologist and GP to follow the Diabetic diet.
On a lighter note, seeing as any one of my conditions will "take me out" when the time is nye, I'm adopting a mix n match diet approach.
So whilst being actively mindful of not heaping on the salt (which I crave on my chips) and eating only the occasional Bannana, with vanilla custard 🤭 of course, I'll take my chances, as my life really is too short.
If I was 40 years younger, my mindset would, I suspect, be very different.
But it's horses for courses and I've had, up until recently, a great life - no regrets. So, my personal choice, as I have no remaining family, I'm going for quality over quantity.
Yes, the IBRUFREN is not your friend if you have kidney issues.
I used to take it (Naproxen) only PRN, when I really needed it for my Osteo-arthritis, which may, or may not have contributed to the decline of my kidney function ?
You need to be very wary of both other prescribed and over the counter medications and supplements are a mine field, so always read the labels
I do hope you get your results sorted out and they are manageable.
Do let us know how you get on. X
