Hello,

A dietician I have been working with recommended I take the kidney probiotic Renadyl. Has anyone had experience with this probiotic? Has anyone else tried a different probiotic as Renadyl is quite expensive, almost $60.00 for a months supply. Thanks

My Nelphrologist suggested a while ago that I take one. I take a basic Physician's Choice 60 Billion CFU product from Amazon. Can't tell you if it works or not because I have been taking it for a couple of years now. Look to see if you can duplicate most of the ingredients in the expensive on with something less expensive.

I've also been using the Physician's Choice 60 Billion CFU for a few years as well. I tried Align, but didn't work for me. Everyone is different.

I am not sure about probiotics specifically for kidneys but I do know that lactobacillus plantarum 299v survives the acids in your stomach, which most probiotics do not, so probiotics from the Swedish company Probi, which has the patent on that, are highly recommended. That germ can survive in acidic environments and Probi has numerous flavours of probiotic drinks and even pills. Originally, these probiotics were developed for people who had had intestinal surgery, but now they are available for all and the benefits are many and well documented.

I take Align and have been taking it for about 10 years. I thought I was developing IBS and saw that it was recommended. It seemed to clear things up so I continue to take it.

YES YES YES!!! I’ve been taking Renadyl for almost 10 years!!! It used to be prescribed for cats with CKD. Don’t know if it’s working but my GFR and creatinine have been stable for all these years. Stage 3A.

Yes! I’ve been taking it one a day with my main meal (as well as another probiotic) and it is working very well for me ☺️

Pl give some more detail such as duration of use, egfr level before and after taking etc

I started taking Renadyl in September 2022 and finished my order on April 28, 2023. I do not plan to order more at this time. Kibow Biotech claims to have clinical tests showing that Renadyl:

1. helps regulate bloodstream concentrations of nitrogenous waste metabolites

2. helps establish healthy gut flora

In January 2022, I started a very low protein, vegan diet and started taking Albutrix. Over time, my BUN dropped to 8. I did not find any improvements in BUN with Renadyl. I do not know what the result would be if I did not take Albutrix.

I was unwilling to pay for expensive tests to monitor gut flora. So, I do not know how well Renadyl works for gut flora.
