Metamucil and Fiber Supplements

Hello,

I have been taking Metamucil for a while now but have been having gas issues all day long and daily, ever since. Does anyone has the same issue with Metamucil ?

I would like to try another fiber supplement, does anyone has any recommendations?

Any suggestions/comments are much appreciated.

Thank you.

I take 3 stool softener pills in am, one at dinner, and Miralax before bed. Bowels are happy. and no gas! Good luck, BB

Thank you, Aloha49. I don't have problems with my bowel movement, I took Metamucil basically as a fiber supplement. I took their 4-in-1 Fiber product.

Whatever your supplement, you may have gas. I have it because of my Rybelsus med. and take generic Gas-X morning and evening.

To piggyback on nonna70’s post, you may add an anti-gas med. Unfortunately gas seems to be an unfortunate side effect for many of us taking similar med/supplements. If taking for fiber or other long-term benefits for underlying medical conditions you probably need to pick up an over the counter gas med to help. I did, most do.

Consider maybe not using a laxative. My hubby was put on laxatives while on PD dialysis and also when he went through a transplant. No matter the product, each time, he had symptoms like yours and was miserable. He discontinued them and everything went back to normal. He has always been very "regular" with his digestion which was a probably a sign that everything was in good working order . Also, just a little note - other fiber products like Benefibre are generally preferred over Metamucil. Metamucil has potassium which can be a problem for kidney patients. If you do need a fiber product, it would be good to ask your nephrologist for his/her recommendation. They're generally happy to give you their thoughts.

if you are taking this for constipation, i think you would be better off with miralax. this is what my nephrologist recommended, however no way am i taking this every day. stool softeners may help if taken on a more regular basis.i took metamucil once and ended up in the emergency room with a severe allergic reaction. hives all over and swelling.

Thank you for all the replies. I have stopped taking Metamucil for almost two weeks now and the gas issue has subsided, but it's still there. I have decided to eat more fruits in order to get better fiber intake. I eat jicama daily and it's a good one for fiber.
