I have just been prescribed to take 5 mg of Amlodipine Besylate (sub for Norvasc)
Is anyone else with CKD on this med and are there side effects? I remember once I was given a channel blocker and I didnt like it. Some how affected my legs, dont remember how.

I am on the same dosage as you. The only side effect that I know about is that it can cause edema. I do not have that issue and have been on the drug for over a year or so.
Amlodipne is a great BP med . Older well proven medication. Will work well with few if any side effects. If you have any angina / chest pain will take it away .
I have taken it in the past and never had issues. I have PKD on dialysis. I have been switched off of late due to a heart rate problem to diltiazam and still needed blood pressure control and had losarten added.
My pcp started me on a low dose of amlodipine some months ago but I was unable to tolerate it. My face swelled & turned red. It kind of scared me so I let office know and I returned to lisinopril, 5mg, which my neph prescribes now. A lot of people take amlodipine without any problems, hopefully you won’t have issues either. God bless
I was taking the 5 mg but it did not help lower my blood pressure so Dr increased the dosage 10 mg and it hasn’t helped lower blood pressure but caused swelling in my feet. Going to the Dr today hoping they can figure out another BP Medicine that will help lower my BP . My GFR is around 13 so can’t take a ace or a arb. Does anyone know of a blood pressure medicine I could ask the Dr that won’t hurt my kidneys.
I didn’t know nebivolol was a ArB the Dr said my GFR has to be at least a30 because when you first start taking a Arb your GFR goes down and then after awhile it goes back up and helps kidney function
yes I think it does go down a few points but I don’t believe that goes away. I hold on my BP medication the night before I know I’m going for blood work so it’s more accurate. I’ve heard that related to farxiga and those kinds of meds, not bp meds.
I take Amlodipine 10 mg. When my doctor raised the dose from 5 mg, I got swollen feet, but that side effect has now disappeared. I guess I got used to it.
First dose of Amlodipine my blood pressure shot up dangerously high. Doctor prescribed another med but I chose not to take it because my potassium was low so decided to correct that and it worked. I have been taking Atenolol for many years to control pvc's and blood pressure.
