Hi all, My husband has persistent, unexplained proteinuria. His new Nephrologist prescribed him 12.5 mg of Losartan to start with. His blood pressure is averaging 99 or 100 over 67 or 68 so she doesn't want it going below 100/60.
Have any of you had similar situations and what were the results? His gfr went back up to 83 at his last test, up from 3 consecutive months in the low 60's.
(His Nephrologist suspects an autoimmune issue and is running tests as well as a biopsy coming up around January. )

He's actually doing a new 24 hr urine test today. But his last test showed 1377 mg in 24 hours or 1.377 grams. His Nephrologist also put him on low sodium, 2000 mg or less per day. His last spot protein was much lower and his gfr went from a 61 to an 83 so we are remaining hopeful.
How much protein are you dumping in 24 hours? Also, have they checked into anything autoimmune related? His new Nephrologist specializes in glomerular diseases as well as rheumatology and she said there's other things they can do if it's something in that genre. We will see once his biopsy is completed.
I’ve had protein and small amounts of blood for years. I also have retinitis pigmentation with sensuous neural hearing loss. Turns out I gave mutation on one gene that causes all of that but a biopsy only showed the kidney damage from high blood pressure which it was never all that high until I hit stage 4.
His Nephrologist said she needs to know which gene test to order, if it's indeed genetic. She will know based on the biopsy. I am guessing that my husband's condition is different from yours since his first known symptoms are Renal. He went to a eye specialist and they found nothing unusual. At the time, they were looking for Keiser rings I think. That's when they were wondering if it was Wilson's.
My retina specialist used Blueprint Genetics. I have a call today with a genetic counselor and some of what I want to know is if there is any way to identify if indeed this is affecting my kidneys or just my eyes/ears. The mutation I have can cause issues with the brain, heart, muscles, pretty much every system in your body.
