GFR went from 105 to 73. Creatine stayed at 0.8. So confused A1c went up 7.5. According to Davita my GFR should be 86 for my age?

Did they use the same eGFR test and or same equation. There has been a change that accounts for BMI and removes race in the calculation.

Hi Lona. No panic. Guess you need to reduce carbs intake. A1c 7,5 need to be reduced. But it should not a big issue making diet adjustment. Talk your phisitian. rgs

Agree with Tolmezzo. Your A1C is outside the usual normal range - possibly indicating diabetes. Diabetes impacts the blood vessels and affects the entire body - kidneys, limbs, eyes, heart, etc. It's the leading cause for kidney disease. If you are confirmed to have diabetes, this is the time to bring your glucose into normal range - eliminating carbs and sugars with determination. My husband ignored his diabetes - basically relying on meds and insulin to keep his health on track. But it all went upside down some years later - taking out his kidneys, forcing him into dialysis. Thankfully, he now has a transplant after he fixed his diet, lost his weight, and got off all diabetes meds. If you are diagnosed with diabetes, you have time to fix it. And this is indeed great news - if one gets that diagnosis, one can indeed turn that boat around if started in time. Looking back, my hubby (and I) wish that the medical professionals had been direct and no-nonsense with us re outcomes. The condition is so commonplace, it's regarded almost casually, and medications are routinely prescribed without much comment or direct warnings. Yet diabetes is a brutal disease. As one medical person at our dialysis center said, "Almost all here are diabetics". Sending encouragement your way that if this is your situation, you'll put it in its place. Your kidneys (and entire body) will love you for it. Blessings!
