I recently had an IV with drug Dobutamine. My GFR was at 51 and Creatinine was at 101. Bloodwork was taken the next day to check my A1C and I was shocked to find that my GFR went down to 34 and Creatinine jumped to 142. Anyone know if the Dobutamine was cause? I'm very concerned.

Dobutamine injection for heart test
Thank you for posting this question. My doctor also wants me to do a cardiac stress test with Dobutamine - but I am concerned about the possible effects on my kidneys (eGFR 49). I hope you get some helpful responses.
It might be a temporary effect and your eGFR will return to your pre Dobutamine level in a few weeks. I hope that is the case for you.
I am hoping it will as well. I also had carbon dioxide contrast IV along with Dobutamine. It is my understanding that that type of contrast doesn't affect kidneys, unlike iodine based contrast.
I had not previously heard that CO2 could be used as a contrast agent in angiography. I looked it up on PubMed and ScienceDirect and there are quite a few research articles about it.

I would ask the doctor if he has a good reason to give you dobutamine instead of putting you on a treadmill. My doctor prescribed it as a matter of course, but I blew a gasket since he could easily see that I could handle a stress test. He changed it no dobutamine and apologized.
Hi Marvin, My doctor recommended the dobutamine test because I have bone on bone arthritis in my right knee and I cannot run on that knee long enough to get my heart rate up to the level they need to see. I also have CKD which makes me wary of any test that requires contrast dye - which is frequently used during an exercise stress test. I told my doctor that I could do an exercise stress test on a bicycle but my Medicare advantage program does not have any bicycle stress test and I couldn’t find a bicycle stress test offered anywhere in the large city that I live in.
Hello, Creatinine can't be 101. Normal levels for a male are 0.7 to 1.2All the best.
Creatinine is not reported that way in Canada. My creatinine is around 265.
