I would love to have comments from members of the group

I have done all , literally all blood tests not only for kidney function tests, but even for all others like HbA1C, Lipid Profile, Thyroid, B.P., etc. etc. and all results are normal, except Creatinine which is around 1.80.

I have done plenty of research, and of course discussed with my Nephro who has said that just monitor and it is because of age. ( I am 75 years male). These results are more or less similar since last two years when I did blood work for first time in life

Dear vinadhun2,

Creatinine is NOT the 'Only' Marker, for Kidney Function- I should know! If 'Everything Else' is OK and you 'Feel' OK too.... then I wouldn't worry, too much, especially if your Doctors aren't! I hope that this Helps.

I would just live life now and enjoy it before all the real stuff hits the fan. Don't go down rabbit holes chasing your own fears. Wake up everyday and feel grateful that you don't have real problems and help others who do.

Hi vinadhun2, did you check the protein level in urine? If not, please do so. It is a significant marker for kidney function. If your protein in urine is normal, then the high creatinine in your blood test is related to age. But if protein in urine is high, your nephrologist will give you a medication to improve it. This is a patient to patient advice. Good luck.

I have no protein in my urine and an eGFR of 24. I've been a vegetarian most of my life, so I know protein isn't always a factor. My CKD is autoimmune caused so that may be the difference. Mine isn't age related either.

Your advice is good for those with high protein, to be sure.

There is no protein in Urine. All electrolytes are within limits like Ca, K, Na, P, Mg, Bicarbonate etc.No Sugar issue HbA1C is 5.2 BP 120/80.So no othe rissues except high creatnine

Hi Vinadhun2, it seems that your numbers are perfect, creatinine is stable at the same level for 2 years and no protein in urine, which is a great sign. Keep monitoring as your neph advised. I heard it from more than one neph that we should focus on the trend of numbers and yours are stable. Be happy and enjoy life!

At 75 kidney function will not be the same as a 35 year olds. If your doctor isn't bothered just forget about it. My GFR is 30 and I lead a normal life and so can you. It's just a watching brief and research can be dangerous. Go by the professional advice and enjoy yourself.

Hi there. I'm 71 and I must tell you that this group is the best I have found for sharing and not panicking with those who might panic. I totally agree with the others in that at our age there are some rabbits that just aren't worth chasing. DSTSS - Don't Sweat The Small Stuff is a good motto. I have found that when I am thankful and grateful for each day I feel so much better than if I allow negative thoughts to linger. Enjoy life and have a beautiful day.

You're doing fine at your age. As others have said, it's good to look at your entire lab report and not just focus on one specific item. My hubby went on dialysis when his creatinine was 6 at age 70 and supporting lab data also reflected issues. (He later received a transplant.) You apparently don't have a serious underlying condition like diabetes, so that number very likely reflects your age as your nephrologist indicated. Heart, bones, kidneys, teeth only last a 100 years in the best of circumstances. While one can't stop age, we make a big point to laugh and do something enjoyable every day. Positivity rules the day.

Hello, 2 months ago, my Creatine was 3.0. After stopping my blood pressure medicine, cutting back on drinking, my Creatine is 1.25. My kidneys imaging came back with no abnormalities, blood work all good now I am 54 and I was devastated when I started this journey. I have follow up test in the next few months, but I am hopeful. What I want to say is Creatine can lower and trust your doctor

Hi TriDogLover, I am happy for you and hope your next blood test stays the same. To go from creatinine level 3 to 1.25 is really something. Could you please share what BP medications you were on? Also you said stopped drinking, always doctors say stop smoking and stop drinking. I don’t do any but my BP used to be high with medications lisinopril first but doctors stopped once my kidney deteriorated, replaced with amlodipine 7.5 mg per day now, and added Losartan a week ago 12.5mg per day. I am vegan since 6 month ago with reduced protein also. What did your doctor say ?

Hi, i was on blood pressure medicine for a year. Olmesartan 40 mg. I think my blood pressure skyrocketed because I was drinking a lot. Work was over the top stressful. I live alone and did not reach out for any support. My stressor co-worker quit. Life is much better. Long-story - I think my BP sky-rocketed to 170/95 partly because of drinking. Then I went on medicine, which caused my Creatine levels to rise. When I finally went to the Nephrologist, my BP was 80/62. I was over prescribed. I was walking around like a zombie, no energy. I had no idea my BP went so low. I had just moved and had minor female surgery, so I just thought I was tired and out of it because of stress.

I also take meds for Anxiety and Sleep disorder. I was way over prescribed for that too. My new doctor has cut my medicine back to less than half.

More…my nephrologist told me to stop all BP meds. I kept a diAry for a week taking BP twice a day. After 2 months off of BP meds - BP still good.

Thank you TriDogLover for sharing such an interesting story that can benefit many others. I am glad you have a good nephrologist who figured out your case and cut/adjusted your medications. Best of luck!

My creatinine is 1.7 and I’m 66. I’ve had my kidney transplant for 16 years, but my doctor just tells me it’s okay. I see why you are concerned. I would be too. But you’ve got to trust your doctor. They know what they’re talking about. I do.

Interesting. My hubby has a transplant and his creatinine is 1.7 too. No one is concerned by it being at that level. His match wasn't perfect - I suspect it's due to the level of immunosuppressants he's taking.
