Hello - this is for any UK members out there - why can't I find a dietician anywhere. Has anyone been successful in locating one. You are blessed in the USA with some amazing dieticians but it would be nice to talk to someone face to face, I think I may have to end up doing it all on line just to get some information. Thanks for reading.

Hey not UK as you probably know but we in the US who are in rural areas face many of the same challenges you in the UK do. While we as a country do have more dieticians and better access to those dieticians than many European countries and while our Medicare/Medicaid systems will pay for those professionals, most are not Renal dietitian or nutrition specialists so we face the choice of someone who has not the specific experience we seek or using an online dietitian. There are several sites out their that offer self-pay access to Renal nutrition specialists who will coordinate with your care team. These options may be offered here in the US but are an option for you or your fellow countrymen if you wish to go that route.

I can provide links if interested. As Forrest Gump would say, “sorry, didn’t mean to mess up your UK only party.” Lol!

Thank you so much for your help here. I would be so grateful if you could provide the links and hopefully I can put a plan together.

Hi I am from the UK. when I got diagnosed with kidney disease I asked to see a dietician in the NHS. My consultant referred me, although got to be honest they were at that time [more than 15 years ago now) not specialist enough in the renal field and not as helpful as I expected. I use kidneycareuk.org for a lot of my go to. they are a UK charity and really good. I have just Googled renal diets on their website and it has popped up to give a link to a nutrition group who specialise in renal diet support, they care called the BDA Renal Nutrition Group. might be worth trying that route? Hope this helps

Hi fartkins, I'm at stage 3 and after quite a bit of foot stamping at my GP I did get a telephone appointment with a dietician, but she wasn't a renal dietician. The referral took about eight months to come through.I didn't get much from the appointment really, she said she had access to a renal dietician and would ask her some questions on my behalf and email the replies to me, but I've not heard from her since and that was weeks ago.

I think there are some private renal dieticians advertised online.

Hi, I am in the U.KAt the clinic I attend I was immediately referred to a dietitian as soon as I hit stage 5 CKD. If you want something you really have to push for it now. A Renal diet is very confusing in the beginning. Have you asked your consultant? You could also try to get a referral from your GP. There is American website called Davita that has lots of kidney friendly recipes.
