Interested to know if anyone else here had been part of the trial or maybe on this drug?
I have recently been put on Forxiga (Dapagliflozin), this drug is normally used for people with type 2 diabetes. However, from a recent trial, it’s been found to prolong the kidney function of people with CKD, who are not diabetic.
After a few meetings with my team, they have decided I am a good candidate for this new medication, used to treat people with CKD.
I am only a week into this, but seeing if there is anyone else out there who has been on this for some time now, and what the outcome has been so far?
Look forward to the replies.

HI Andil, My husband has been on Forxiga since September. He is diabetic and has stage 3 CKD. His diabetes was not well controlled before and now his highs and lows are less often, and he has been slowly lowering his insulin usage. HIs CKD has been stable.
Yes, I have heard of non-diabetics using this with great success. They are finding that it is not only good for the kidney but also protective of the cardiometabolic systems.
AndiL, I don't have diabetes either and my doctor is saying he is thinking of putting me on a sglt2 inhibitor maybe next year after the studies come out. I'm sorry I don't have any experience for you, but my doctor seems hopeful that they may be useful. My kidney disease was caused by acute tubular injury.
Please let us know how everything works out for you, thank you for being in the trial, and I hope for the best outcome for you!
Hi, my clinic put me on Jardiance which is the same, and my bloodpressure dropped and finally I started loosing weight. I feel 10 times better after I started on it.
When no asked my doctor about it, he mentioned I could have the trial if my GFR reached up to above 25. But unfortunately I’ve just found out my latest results have dropped down to 16 from 23. Really upsetting. Good luck and hope you get the opportunity.
I have been following this medication while it was being trialed and the study stopped do do overwhelming efficacy for diabetics and non diabetics. Some of the experts i have also been following are expecting the gfr level requirement to drop below 25 once more data is in. It is hopeful to be be efficacious with gfr below 25 but time will tell. Have hope!
I’m always hopeful and prayerful for new meds, with less side effects. I have no information on Forxiga, but I truly hope it works well for you. Thanks for sharing this.
My nephrologist is putting me on farsiga. I also have a very rare autoimmune kidney disease. She said that in clinical studies of diabetes patients it actually lowered the amount of protein being dumped by the kidneys into the urine.
I’m really curious about these studies also. I asked my nephrologist about putting me on Farxiga & she wanted to hold off for now. I’m stage 3b & my CKD was caused by Vasculitis. My nephrologist said all of the studies were done on people who had CKD as a result of diabetes or heart disease/high blood pressure.
I guess I'm the outlier as I've tried it and could not tolerate it, due to the severe constipation and leg pain. Also, there are some pretty serious side effects so any of you that are taking it or thinking of taking be sure you are aware of them.
My husband did not respond well to Farxiga or Jardiance. He is diabetic . He had terrible side effects. He had extreme fatigue and nightmares. His blood sugars went up higher. His kidney function gfr actually became worse and the doctor took him off both medications within 3 weeks or so. I think his kidney disease might have been too advanced for it to be helpful
Hi AndiL! I have been on Farxiga for just shy of a year. So far, so good! For the first 2 weeks your labs will look worse, but after that things start to stabilize. You should take it as early in the morning as possible because you will need to drink plenty of water, and you will be peeing alot. I pray that this will be your answer 🙏
