Januvia for type 2 diabetes in stage 4 ckd

Anyone here taking Januvia for type 2 diabetes? I have stage 4 ckd stage and would like to know if anyone has been prescribed with this kind of med when at stage 4 ckd?is it safe for ckd?

Hi Dina, I was on Januvia for years and also stage four for the last five years or so. It was ok. I still had high sugar at times when I ate something carb or sweet. Now I am on a GLP-1 and it is amazing. I do not have highs or lows and I am weening down my insulin. Talk to your doctor. But I will say many providers are concerned with the possibility of the new drugs causing kidney harm. But they are kidney protective and what causes the harm is being dehydrated.

Januvia was also originally supposed to cause kidney harm, but they removed that claim after they found out it was actually good for CKD.

I have been on Januvia, 25 mg since we had to stop the metformin, and my A1c has remained good, with no side effects
