Trying to figure out how big a problem protein in urine is.

I urine test and it said my albumin was 50. Since normal is between 30 and 300 this seems low but I haven't been able to ask my Dr. yet. Can you guys help me out? Is it a trace or something that I should be concerned about. Thanks.

We cannot diagnose on this forum. Here is a link to information from Web MD. It should give you information so can question your Doctor. Did the Doctor give you a reason for the test? webmd.com/diabetes/urine-te...

Hi jrex,

I can understand your concern about what appears to be an issue with your labs as any time something appears not to be perfect it is disconcerting.

I agree with Orange City; give the ordering doctor a call and speak to him/ her and review your results with them.

Your doctor knows your overall health and medical conditions best and would be able to answer specific questions as they see you.

I would print out a copy of all labs just ordered and check off any results which flag low, high or of concern based on the given ranges from your lab.

If you have the last set of labs completed, jot the results down above the new ones as to see patterns and list questions on the side of the sheet, so you don't leave the office wondering.

We are a support group here.

Members may banter about and discuss experiences and thoughts but unfortunately are not medically qualified to give you specific answers.

Reasons for something could be many or none; or just time of test, hydration etc.

Check in with your doctor and reach out again as we will always reach back.

You are among friends.

Stay positive!

My nephrologist always told me that we all have protein in our urine. And if you are dehydrated the concentration of protein will appear as though it is higher than it really is. A low amount of protein is what we all want. Whenever there is a question you should always consult with your ordering doctor

YES! Be very concerned. Micro turns into MACRO...Protein in the speed of the train to end stage. Get it treated. I wish that I had.

Thanks all. I did not mean to ask for medical advice. I have seen a lot of people post their numbers and talk about them so didn't realize it's not permitted.

We give advice based on what happened to us but each person is very different. But protein is not supposed to be in the urine. You might be having spikes I'm blood pressure that you aren't aware of or something.

Chiming in a tad late, but do different labs use different numbers (scales) for things like Albumin? My latest lab from November says "normal" for albumin level is between 3.5 and 4.8, not 30-300. Anybody else have different scales from their lab? Or am I reading the wrong line on my lab? Is there another "Albumin" other than "Albumin Level"?

My lol ad in HI said under 25 .. other were under 30 considered normal. But normal is zero.

I am impressed by the determination of contributors on this site not to offer diagnostic advice. However, how difficult is it to say that low protein is good, and reduce members anxiety,
