24 hour urine protein

Hi.

My doctor ordered a 24 hour protein urine test after a year.

— Last year's results were:

- 45mg/24hr (reference range <150)

- Creatinine 900 (reference range 800-2000)

- PCR : 0.05 (reference range <2)

- Urine Volume : 1500 cc

— This year :

- 100mg/24

- Creatinine 1000cc

- PCR : 1

- Urine Volume : 2000cc

It kinda sounds like I'm getting closer to proteinuria...

I was wondering if the urine volume can impact the results! Maybe I'm trying to deceive myself just to make myself feel better (Am I? ) hahaha

Next neph appointment in 5 days...

Sharam,

Your doctor is being thorough by ordering a 24 hour catch. If I am home, I tend to drink more water while doing this.

Nephrologists consider a 24 hour catch to be their gold star marker as it reflects an average over 24 hours;where as a spot urine sample can reflect various elements at one given time of day.

This concept is on the same idea as when an A1C is ordered to assess an average of glucose over a three month period and a glucose test will reflect that day and time.

So don't be surprised if your results differ.

My nephrologist has me do a 24 hour catch prior to each appointment and I leave a spot urine for him when I come in.

Print out a physical copy of your results with you so that you are both looking at the same page at the same time; makes questions and discussion smoother and easier.

Be sure to ask him/ her to explain the results to you as they may appear different on a 24 hour catch report than on a spot catch.

Be positive! I am for you.

Thank you very much, Bet!Yeah, I'm going to ask him everything! I hope this neph is willing to answer the patient's questions unlike the other ones 😅

I'll stay positive! 👍👍

😊 Be safe

Your results are all within NORMAL limits. I don't understand your worry : )

It sounds like your Dr. is being overly thorough due to your anxiety with all the tests.

I am stage 4 and never had that test. But I have no protein either since I don't have T2D, HTN, and have been a vegetarian my whole life.

Don't worry about changes within normal limits. Only worry if things go HIGH or LOW out of NORMAL range. Otherwise it is perfectly fine. I imagine your Dr. tells you the same thing.

I was just a little worried cause it has double since last year so I was afraid in a year or two, I might have proteinuria! But if you say that's nothing to worry about, then ok 😁

I'll definitely ask my nephrologist though. He sounds kinder than my last neph! Hope it won't change 😅

Thank you very much, Sophie

Why waste today worrying about something that may never happen in a few years. Many people, myself included, have serious issues right now and aren't as concerned as you. Take it as a gentle reminder to watch your diet and take a kidney class to learn about slowing progression.

Hi Sharam!I was wondering how are you doing? Last time you posted you were going to see the doctor for test results. You and my husband have similar cases and I was wondering if you ever got any feedback. I hope you are doing well.
