Hi Needafriend! You came to the right place. This is a great community to ask for advice or just get encouragement. My husband has high bp as well. Just started dialysis December 2020. So far so good! My husband has trouble sleeping as well. Have you talked to your doctor about your sleep habits? Doctor told husband that he could talk 3 mg melatonin. Of course you need to check with your doctor first to see if it’s ok for you to take. Anytime you need to talk message me. Good luck and his bless!

I’d definitely talk with my nephrologist about these symptoms and then ask if the symptoms can be treated and if so what can you go to get the treatment started.Jayhawker

Hi ask your doctor about very low dose seroquel like 25 mg . Make sure that you exercise daily, can be anything you like to do, walking , swimming , running , dancing. But, moving is very good for our mental health. My favorite is yoga or any other methods that involve stretching in addition to the cardio. Hope that helps . Take care

Needafriend, Reaching out when you can't do it alone is a sign of good mental health ! That first step is so hard. It sounds like you aren't getting much support from your doctor, and that support is crucial to your health and peace of mind. Can you contact the doctor and do a video or phone appointment ? Or could it be time to change doctors....depending on your health insurance ? Usually it's possible. I've had chronic pain and autoimmune issues for 20 years, and now have stage 4 kidney disease. It took me some time , and tears, to realise I could, and should, be in charge of my health. And I deserved competant, compassionate doctors. Hang in there !

Hello Needafriend! Welcome! I have high blood pressure as well and fluid retention issues, so I do understand what you mean with the mood swings and difficulty breathing (I’m also menopausal, which doesn’t help matters at all). You don’t have to do walking if you’re not able to for long distances. You can even try some arm or leg exercises while in a sitting position, such as punching motions in the air directly outward in front of yourself. And leg lifts from a seated position as well, by lifting your knees up on each leg. Try going online to YouTube, they have exercise videos for those who wish to do seated exercise. Any exertion, no matter how little, is better than none at all. This will help you to use up some of your nervous energy, as well as help you keep your heart rate going well.

Another thing you could try to help with sleep, along with Melatonin (which you can purchase at any health or drug store), is chamomile tea. If you drink a cup before bed, it should help soothe your nerves enough to help get you to sleep. All of the suggestions you’ve read above are great, and more natural. Natural remedies would be the best to try out first, before asking your doctor for a prescription remedy.

And remember also, you should always consult with a member of your medical team before making any changes to your diet, exercise and sleep routines. That is to say, check with your doctors before taking even the Melatonin, or drinking the chamomile tea (in case your fluid intake is limited). Even though they are natural, it doesn’t necessarily mean that it can’t harm you in some way.

I hope you will find some of this helpful. You are in my thoughts and prayers dear. I wish you all my best. God bless. 🙏✌️

Hello Needafriend,I also suffer with mental illness and I have high blood pressure, dialysis, and diabetes so finding balance is very hard when you have dual diagnosis, but it can be done. For me I need to break down every goal/decision into steps that I know I can accomplish otherwise it will get overwhelming for me and I also include my mental health care coordinator, therapist ,physician ,and my Mom all the support I can get from people including healthunlock as well as from other people with mental health issues to see how or what works for them that helps me out knowing that I'm not alone. Now as far as sleep goes I too need help with falling asleep ( my dialysis is at night) so I am going to talk to my mental health provider about this issue.

Hi NeedafreindI am so sorry that I have only just seen your message. I haven’t been on the site for a while. Did you manage to get any help with your sleep problems? I did suffer with sleep for a long time and my Doctor gave me medication but the only problem is you can get addicted to it if you stay on it for a while. But short term would be fine, but I would try reading a good book. If you need a chat just message back and I will sort something out so you won’t feel alone. Take care speak soon x
