For the past month or so, my muscles have become sore and fatigued. I almost feel like I am getting the flu, where my body has pain all over. It's not bad pain, but kind of achy like when you're first coming down with the flu (which I don't have). I came across an article on CMP (chronic musculoskeletal pain), which said that it can be caused by CKD in someone in later stage (I was 3b gfr of 37 in September). My muscles don't recover from exercise like they should (They are sore a lot longer than they should be), and it seems like they get sore very easily. The muscles also feel like they have lactic acid build up like after a workout, but without working out. I also get muscle cramps in my feet, and can't stretch out in bed for fear of my muscles cramping up. Anyone have a similar experience, and if so, what did you find out about it? I'm afraid to take any supplements like magnesium, and won't until I get my next blood work done. I sent a message to my nephrologist explaining things, and will be calling them today to make an appointment. Any information/ideas about this condition, and what to ask my Dr. when I see her would be greatly appreciated. Thanks-

Muscle pain/weakness question
The way I describe the problem is that my body, & in particular my legs, feel as if I had done a 10 mile walk the day before, ie stiff & aching. Also, to prevent the cramps in bed - you need to stretch with heel down & toe pointed upwards to avert it happening. I have found that taking vit D supplement helps a great deal try. You need to try t out to find suitable dose for you.
I was taking a vitamin D complex and magnesium, but stopped for fear of doing more damage to my kidneys. I talked to me nephrologist, and she ordered some labs so we can see where my numbers are, and go from there. She doesn't feel that my CKD is causing my muscle issues. All of my numbers were within the normal range (except for my creatinine and gfr of course), but my other numbers were fine. If there is a drop off of my vitamin D since my last tests, then I will discuss the proper dosage with her. I know that magnesium helps with muscle cramping, but I will wait until I see my latest results and discuss that with her. Thanks for the reply.
