So I'm due to get my kidney blood test results later today, the three specific ones, can't remember what they're called.
I have an appointment with my gp to discuss these. Recently I've started to get a sharp stabbing like pain above my right hip, about 2 inches round my side towards my back. It's not where the kidneys are directly it's about 4 inches to the right of that area. I was wondering if I should mention it.
I've not done any extreme exercise, or overstretched.
Help!

I more meant we're only supposed to have one issue per consultation, I know crazy. But if it sounds like this could be a kidney thing then it could be discussed in the same consultation as the results.
WOW! I think you summed it up perfectly when you said, "Crazy." Since your labs are kidney related and the pain could possibly be an issue with CKD I think it should be discussed at this consultation.
yeah we have a note at our gp that "one problem per appointment, so if you have three problems please make three appointments". Some gps don't like it if you talk about too much in one appointment.
Sorry but I would be getting another dr. I'm lucky to have a dr that wants to talk about everything going on with me. My kidney dr is a different attitude ,I have cyst on my kidney . but he isn't interested only numbers .LOL
My new nephrologist is Associate Renal Chief/ Clinical at a respected metro hospital. Came in for appointment #2, and spent about 15!-20 minutes with me. He made a motion for the door twice as he informed me he was over booked.
Also that he consulted with my former nephrologist of which he was told that I had issue without my verbal or written permission.
Competent in labs prior to removal of Tacrolimus and post. Twenty four urine catch and spot urine catch.
Renewed a prescription, wants 3.months. until next appointment and 24 hour catch..willing to refer me to a dietician..
It is good he got you a referral to a dietitian. Did he say what was wrong with your permission form? Maybe just give 1 more chance in 3 months and see what goes from there?
Thanks for responding. I am giving him the benefit of his knowledge and expertise as Renal Chief and will see him in 3 months as agreed; completing labs as directed.
See what labs show.
I gave him a copy of my labs and open notes from the other hospital as well as a CD containing my biopsy and CT which precluded my diagnosis.
In his note, he did indicate that he will be reviewing them with his associate from his team.
I was just asked who my prior nephrologist was..he told me that "he knows him well." There was no request to speak to him and nothing to sign.
When I voiced my issue with a non approved consult and why, he asdured me it was just medical involved.
As far as the dietician, I asked and he was happy to make the referral.
I am going to make an appointment with tbe Davita renal dietician in our area and see her.
About 2 months ago at my pcp I was told point blank, "I don't have time for this." I gave a vicious look! I have changed doctors. I have an appt on Sept. 4th w/ my kidney doctor. If he has any issues, I am moving on!
My kidney results are back within normal range, yay! They were low before we possibly think due to high protein diet - I do exercise - increased exercise and lowered protein intake, found a balance to help recovery and build muscle. And drinking LOTS more water.
The amount and duration I take NSAIDs doesn't have any impact currently. I take ibuprofen for 5 days a month, I basically have to at the moment because of my endometriosis. Surgery will hopefully help that.
Docs have ordered an ultrasound of kidneys and surrounding tissue / organs as I have random stabbing pains could be kidney issues could be the above.
Hi, i have been following your posts as i too have ckd, you say that your results came back normal. im at stage 3, can o too diet snd exercise and have normal kidneys too? what diet are you following and what foods do you eat please. Thanks
There is lots of information about renal diets. Here is one good site davita.com/diet-helper/ If you can, ask for a referral to a renal dietician. I wish I had done that earlier. I was stage three for many years and no one told me about changing up my diet until I was stage four.
I can't recommend a diet as I'm not a doctor, Bassetmommer's link looks good.
I have very little dairy; if I do have any it's just natural yogurt and some cheeses - edam, goats cheese, mozzarella, halloumi. I have very little carbohydrate if I have any it's complex carbs - sweet potato, pulses and beans. I have very little sugar any I do have is non-refined, natural from fruits, in honey, natural sweeteners such as xylitol, on the list of ingredients, carbs containing polyols are fine, these are natural sweeteners although they have calories, they are digested differently to refined sugar. I do have a high protein diet, but natural meats and fish, so no added salt, added water etc that means no bacon, gammon, sausages and similar. Chemicals can affect kidneys as does salt, basically anything that needs to be filtered out of our urine. Lots of water helps with any medical issue
i have found that as my Kidney Function decreases my muscles and tendons do not perform as well....the kidney is responsible for the enzyme that replaces muscles as we shuff them off and they no longer get replaced...
