I've had spots that itch off and on for some time but i never related it to CKD, but now I do. The spot itching is not unbearable but annoying. My skin overall has always been problematic because im fair skinned and its gotten thin and dry as I aged. My go to remedy for this spot itching is benadryl gel which I keep in the fridge. Its ice cold and it only takes a few drops to rub in and the itching is gone. Its OTC but i would still check with my doctor about its use. ( forgive me if this is the 2nd copy of my reply. I keep losing the original!)
What's your phosphorus lab blood level? If it is high, you may request your doctor to give you a prescription for a phosphorus blocker.
Im not near my lab report now, but im sure im stillits not high as far as i remember. But, ill keep that in mind to check it out on next lab work in 3 weeks. Thanks for your quick response.
Im enjoying this website, but I'm still hitting the wrong buttons. Did you originally post a question about itching? Ill get the hang of it once i become more familiar with it. I didn't read the instructions but i will eventually. Best to you.
I forgot to mention to you in my last reply that I take a low dose of Gabapentin for fibromyalgia. It helps my fibromyalgia and also it seems to reduce my itching. You may want to ask your doctor, if this is a viable choice for you.
You know ive akways been reluctant to take new meds. I drive the PCPs crazy. Right now im on new bp meds and they're worryimg me while I wait for the expected results to kick in.. Glad you found something thst works. Im aware of how disturbing itching can be. So distracting! So far, mine has only been in a little spot on my leg or arm. But, its good to have your advice once it gets more intense.
I am not a doctor, I do not give medical advice. I can only make suggestions. I understand about taking so many meds, I take many myself, including two bp meds.
Its funny about all these medications that are prescribed. Years ago, this didn't happen. My father lived to 81 and never took a prescription medication. Likewise, the same with my mother. Who knows many they would have made it to 100 if they had been prescribed meds. But, I don't remember it being done years ago. My father worked very hard at a labor job and his go to medication for pain was aspirin. He thought it was a godsend. No one asked for pain medication years ago! Have a good day.
