Stopping treatment
Yes in 32 yr old female been on dialysis for 6 months I have 3 children all girls and it takes a lot out of you
I’m sure we’ve all wanted to stop our treatments at some point or another. But when it gets right down to it, you realize if you don’t continue with your treatments you will only become sicker and eventually you will die. Yes, dialysis takes it’s toll on the mind and body, but are you ready to end it all? Talk with your nurse, doctor, social worker, and family members, you may also message me if you would like. Become informed, and yes if you still feel that way you have every right to stop treatments.
Hello Missthumper. Truthfully, I’m not on dialysis as of yet. I’m actually not sure if that is an option that I will take when the time for me does come. Lately, I have not been urinating very much so I do worry about this. But I have heard from many who are on dialysis that it can be very rough on a person. Many dialysis patients have said how fatigued and worn out they feel following a treatment, and who have also stated that they thought about halting the treatments, so I do understand your feelings.
If you are actually considering stopping the treatments, you really should speak with your medical team first. You may also want to conduct some research online with regard to your options. This is a sadly difficult journey that we here, are on, and the decisions we make on it are never easy ones to make. Even writing this post is causing me to tear up a little. But thankfully, we have the strength and support of each other here. I wish there was something better I could say to you about this. CKD is always a tough ride for everyone.
Once again, speak to your nephrologist about your thoughts and concerns, as well as doing some research online, and hopefully, you can find a resolution that’s most suitable for you, given the difficult situation.
I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers, dear. All my best to you. God bless. 🙏🙂
As a respiratory therapist I saw several patients stop their dialysis and go into hospice. They were all in their 70's. They were at a point where even dialysis wasn't helping improve their quality of life.
I am 71 and did try to stop dialysis. I was okay for 2 weeks, ate the super foods I was supposed to. I was walking better, had more energy, my legs did not hurt as much, etc. But then, I started getting sick and had to call an ambulance to take me to the hospital. Guess what, they almost lost me and now I am back on dialysis. Don't try it. I still eat the super foods and feel fine but do go to dialysis 3 times a week. I hope this helps you decide. Take care.
I've been on in center hemodialysis for about a month now. I'm 48 years old. I think about stopping treatments every time I have one, because I haven't had a dialysis treatment that went smoothly yet. Even on my worst of days before I started did I ever feel this sick as I do during and after my treatment. I've promised myself that I would keep it up until the end of the year. I'm hoping that my team will figure out what prescription for dialysis works best with my condition and things get better. So far however, I feel like I'm being treated like a chart # getting a generic textbook treatment and not receiving an individualized care plan that works best for my condition and my body.
