Need help with my numbers

My recent results show GFR 73 and Albumin/Creatinine high at 5.8 and I want to know how bad these sound. I am male 72 and won’t be upset with any news.

Don’t worry numbers fluctuate but retest at your age it doesn’t seem bad my husband is 68 years old and his numbers are worse but doctor told him he would live a good 10 more years. Just watch the food u eat go see ur doctor and live ur life

Hey, I sure wish my numbers looked like yours. I'm currently at end stage (stage 5) with kidneys functioning at 14%. I'm 67. So count your blessings that your kidney's are doing as well as they are and don't stress about it at all at this point. But like the oil level in your car, it's good to pull the dipstick out occasionally and take a read, even when you know things are ok. When you get older, the nurse at my kidney doctor office said your kidneys are not going to function at 100% like they do when you're 5. So your numbers are actually more like 100% ok at your age (please ask your doc to confirm this, that's just based on what that nurse told me).

If you want a ton of information about all these numbers, go to kidneyschool.org and check out the module that talks about those numbers. It will probably have way more information than you want to know, but it's sorta interesting to get to know what those numbers are. But then have your doc go over your numbers with you after you go through the kidney school module, which will give you questions to ask the doc when you see him again.

Keep as healthy as you can and you'll probably outlive most people on this site, including me.

I suggest you talk to your doctor regarding these results. He can calm your fears regarding the results. As you age, your creatinine does rise.

We an only speak from our own experience and cannot diagnose.

When looking at a lab site, for men - "It is considered that the normal ratio of albumin to creatinine in men is less or equal to 17 mg/g of creatinine."

Though your GFR has dropped, it seems that the albumin ratio is in the normal range.

GFR and creatinine results can be effected if you are not well hydrated, ate a high in protein meal the night before, exercise, etc

You can always ask your doctor to repeat your lab.

Best of luck to you!
