A kidney-friendly meal plan will only be a part of what you should be doing to slow the progression of CKD. A steady exercise regimen is needed. If you take any medications be sure that they don't have an adverse effect on your kidneys. Use drugs.com to check for any interactions.
One drop or increase in your GFR really doesn't mean that much. Look for the average of your GFRs over time to give you a better indication of where you are.
How often are your labs being drawn?
If you want some idea about recipes use the davita.com. in their menu bar, they have a varied list of meals with complete nutrition information. You should have a nephrologist and ask for a referral to a renal dietitian. Bring all of your lab results. They will look at your potassium, phosphorus, protein, sodium, and calcium numbers to help design a meal plan specifically for your needs.
At the DaVita website, you can also register for a free, 90-minute Kidney Smart class in your area. Lots of resources and information will be shared to provide you with more assistance in controlling CKD.
I have not officially been diagnosed with CKD but my I saw a nephrologist who said that my GFR levels have reduced however they did not find blood/proteins in my urine.
So not sure if i have CKD.
I regularly attend the gym 4 times a week mainly doing free weight exercises. I have kept a high protein diet for a number of years as I didn't know about this was effecting my levels.
I also have Proctitus which is a form of IBD and take Pentasa which from what i can see have no interactions.
I only have two readings at the moment, not sure on creatanine level but were told these were high.
2016 64
2019 50
I live in the UK so don't think they have kidney smart classes here?
In 2011 my Gfr was 47. Today it’s 66. I also have been doing intensive gym work over the years but I’ve gone easy now. I was 31 in 2011.
How did you increase your GFR?
Was you diagnosed with CKD?
I only discovered in 2019 when a new doctor told me my Gfr was 52. The doctor who did the test in 2011 didn’t tell me. For the last six months I’ve been following a kidney diet but without many restrictions and my GFr in September 2019 was 62, Dec 2019 66. I also have no protein or blood in urine and my scans are normal so haven’t been formally diagnosed. I’m seeing my Nephrologist again in March. I’m 41 yrs from South Africa.
Thats good! What kind of diet you been doing?
Low protein, mostly chicken breasts, low sodium- no salt in my cooking, try limiting potassium and phosphorus although my Nephrologist says it’s not necessarily at the moment. But I religiously watch sodium and limit protein.
You might go to kidneyschool.org and view the modules that will give you information on CKD.
I've been told more green vegetables and fruits in my diet is helpful and I only drink tea or the occasional seven up but I'm still adjusting my diet.i can't eat fish but I know certain ones are good.i got a food guide from the kidney foundation that I use.you might ask .
