I was sent for a routine blood test and GP called me in as my GFR was 47. The lat result, eighteenth months, ago was 64. This seems a dramatic drop and got me very worried indeed. I'm 73 years old and diabetic type 2. I just feel that if my GFR has fallen that much it looks like things are deteriorating rapidly. I have a repeat check this Thursday and am hoping for the best. I am really worried about this.

Panic following GFR result
Did they use the same formulae for eGFR tests?
A lot of things can impact egfr in the short term. Were you hydrated? Had you been more active the 24 hours prior to the last test? Had you eaten more protein than normal, especially red meat within 24 hours of the test? Sometimes even medications can temporarily reduce egfr. That's why they recheck.
I know you are frightened and that is to be expected. However, I have learned that many things can affect eGFR. So don’t panic. Good luck and let us know how it goes.
My first eGFR came in at 24. The next one was in the 40s, then over the next year, the 50s. Now its sometimes "above 60", which is all my lab says if it looks normal. This is all pretty unusual I think, eGFR doesn't normally improve much, it just varies with exercise and hydration. I did go on a strict vegan diet when it was in the 4os and 50s, which I'm still on, as its made me healthier and thinner, which I'm enjoying. I also love blueberries, which may be some kind of anti-inflammatory super-food.
Good knowing about the blueberries, what about the cranberries?
