Will GFR go down?

I just got checked (52 years old) Creatin 1.5 (.4-1.4 is the lab range) GFR 53 / BUN=21 is in range so is Albinum =4 - never drank water (maybe glass or 2 per day) and used colon cleanse all the time and was eating meat at least 3-4 times per week and weighed in at about 210/212lbs / Felt very dehydrated with headaches and just malaise. Also had been taking 2 advil PM every night for past year or so but stopped 3 weeks ago as well- last 3 weeks upped my water intake to almost 1/2 gallon per day, maybe more - stopped meat and usually have chicken , fish , vegetables and hit the gym about 3-4 times per week. always was a gym guy. Now down to about 200 lbs - you guys think eGFR will go up and creatin down? last blood test was in Dec. Urine is crystal clear, no swelling , no tiredness (BP 115 / 82 sometimes 107/75 - fluctuates) Cholesterol 166 Sugar levels within range- this is keeping me up at nights ...sometimes:-)

Your GFR can go up and down. It's a snapshot of the time the labs were drawn. Stay well-hydrated, lay off the Aleve and any other NSAID's as they are very harmful to your kidneys. If you have to take something an occasional Tylenol is okay. Should you overdo that you'll run into liver issues.

In addition to the things I've mentioned you need to look into a kidney-friendly meal plan.

If you are in the USA use the davita.com website to register for a free, 90-minute Kidney Smart class in your area. You'll be given a lot of information on meals, medications to avoid, and they'll provide you with a lot of resources to use as you begin your journey. You'll already found the best resource here. Lots of folks will help you by sharing their stories and wisdom of what they've learned.

If the colon cleanse you've used contains a lot of sodium, you might want to discontinue that or find something else with less harmful effects. Who is ordering the tests for you, your PCP or someone else? If it's not a nephrologist you might ask for a referral to see one and have them give you additional instructions and also help you shed some light on the cause of your CKD.

Best of luck.

Dr tobias cleanse from amazon which i buy myself - did it to keep weight in check - stopped about month ago - now i only drink water, try to eat right and exercise. Went in for physical and the tests showed up the kidney part - im thinking the time i took the blood test i was very dehydrated and run down but we will see with next tests - feel better now with loss of weight , stopped advil pm , no cleanse and hydration - headaches gone - better concentration, etc.- thank you very much for your feedback -

Hi there, apopnj01! From what I understand, dehydration in itself, even for those who don’t suffer from CKD, can cause headaches as well. Actually, it can cause major issues if one is not careful, CKD or no CKD. Kudos on the weight loss, and I’m glad to hear (or read, that is) that you’re feeling better. Sometimes, even for those of us who are dealing with a chronic illness, just a few simple changes to diet and exercise routines can make a huge difference. Keep up the good work and stay well! All the best to you! 😊👍

Thank you very much

If I had numbers like that, I'd brag too.

Can you please let me know the name of the fruit you get from China. Thanks.

I think you may have me mixed up with someone else. Maybe an Asian grocery can help you.
