Hi everyone, I have been on a roller coaster this past month after being diagnosed with stage 3 then stage 5 then stage 4 ckd. My creatinine was 450 then went up to 605 the down to 450 then up again to 501. Plus my cousin died yest of a massive cardiac arrest after being diagnosed w pneumonia. They administered antibiotics then his kidneys failed. I'm so scared that this will happen to me. Though my doctors are not worried and just told me to follow a plant based diet take vit d3 Omega 3 and some HBP medicine. I feel great I lost 15 lbs.but my mind isn't right specially after the death of my cousin. I just want to live a normal life, I want my creatinine to be normal and gfr to improve. Hope someone can encourage me.

Thanks

Hi RaviC, i understand your pain, are you from India? do you live in India?

Plant based life style is the answer.

There is a youtube channel, which describes in detail how to eat plant based and detox in order to get better, please plese try it out.

Satvic Movement. By Subah Jain. the diet and FOOD Rules are very very good and taught by a great naturopath and Guru, please try that diet out for 3 months religiously. It may be high in potassium so d check out alternatives and cunt your potassum intake.

Great Ravi, wish you luck and Good health. May I know your diet plan and your medications? and how the diet has changed your reports.

I am sharing our diet here:

Breakfast: 1 bowl of fruits

Lunch: 2 bowls of lightly cooked vegetables with vegetable roti(chapati, bread)

Dinner: Rice and lentils, RIce and soup etc.

After having this diet, noticed a huge weight loss, 10-12 kgs in 2 months, and proteinuria came down . (PS also taking bp medicine with this diet).

Hi Ravi,

I can understand your fears and they are very normal. Anytime the word

" kidney disease" is mentioned it creates knots in the stomach. I know that it did me. I am sure that many members of this community have felt the same way.

Your family history is to be looked at, but that doesn't mean it will happen to you. Direct members of my family have had cardiac issues, my brother is a severe diabetic, but that doesn't mean that I will have these issues. My medical team is aware of my family history and therefore keep and eye on issues in it.

Every person is different.

Remember that you are doing everything possible to prevent the CKD progression which is important.

Give the plant based diet that you are on a chance to work.

Additionally see your doctor, pay attention to your lab results, take your medication and tell the doctor now you are feeling both physically and your concerns as communication is very important.

Take a look at the you tubes that Any 1078 suggested as they may give you great suggestions.

Watch your sodium and potassium, protein and phosphorous intakes as well. Drink your bottled water as well.

I am including a low sodium

food chart below.

Also a link which lists suggested foods from each area

Ravi, stay positive and give this time to settle in your mind as well as work in your body. When you cut your finger, it doesn't heal overnight.

The important thing is that you are doing everything that you can to stabilize and improve this.

Please reach out again - you are not alone.

Bet

I am age 78 and was diagnosed 4 years ago. I was put on a CKD diet by my Doctor, and appropriate exercise routine. The diet more toward a plant based. Since following this diet and exercise regimen, my eGFR has improved and the progression of Chronic Kidney Disease has slowed down. I also take vitamin D3 and Omega3. There is hope and there is help available for us.

We’re you able to find a renal dietician to help with your plant based diet? It’s good to have a little help getting started to make sure you are getting enough nutrients. Since we are all at different stages and many of us have other issues beyond CKD, plans might need to be tweaked for your specific needs. This plan is also good for your heart, so you are being proactive and doing what you need. Make sure to get some light exercise. Get the whole family to go on a daily walk. Do fun things with them and enjoy your time together. Focus on how thankful you are for your wife and kids and focus on doing things for and with them. Showing them how to deal with life’s troubles will make them amazing people and will help you to worry less about this disease. You have already done more than so many people by being willing to change your diet. You lost weight. You feel great! This is a a HUGE accomplishment and through that you are giving your kids so much. It shows that you are humble, flexible and strong. Conquering the mental part is your next challenge and you can do it. I don’t have kids to be strong for, so I think of my Mom and husband and I’m strong for them when I’m unable to be strong for me. It helps.

Here’s a good mantra for you, “ I am strong, I am capable, I am thankful for my improving health, my family and each day that I am granted on this Earth.”

Every time you start focusing on being scared, stop and say this to yourself over and over until your anxiety subsided. You will start to re-wire your brain of those negative thoughts. At some point, it will become a natural reflex to think that.

Here’s to your improving health!

I'm age 80. My mother lived until age 96. My goal is to die as healthy as I can rather than win the "years until death contest." Whether you believe in God (as I do), Allah, or ... when we pass to the other side is out of our hands. I am now on a plant-based, low protein diet, supplemented with amino acids. Some of the "vegiburgers" sold pre-packaged in our (USA) freezer cases are higher in sodium than others. I aim for the low sodium varieties. I am inspired by orangecity41's results. I will watch the You Tube video mentioned by Any1078.
