I have been experiencing lowering numbers in my Kt/V labs, and my Renal Nurse doesn't have any specific ideas on how to elevate it again. Here's what has occurred:
In August, 2018, my Kt/V was 3.93 (2.0 and higher is the target). In November, 2018, it went down to 1.87. In Feb 2019, it was back up to 2.83. Since May, I have had 3 separate Kt/V tests (May, June & July) and they are all around 1.6.
My Renal Nurse suggests testing it again in August labs. I am sort of getting tired of collecting urine and taking drain bags to the dialysis center. Besides just "testing again" with no changes, I wonder what I can be doing to increase the number myself. The RN said that dehydration can be a cause. She also said she may need to perform another PET test.
I was wondering today if there is any chance that getting another Iron infusion would help. The Kt/V is an indicator of how well the dialysis treatments are cleaning my blood. I am confused because my UF (ultrafiltration) rates have not been low.
I am going to do some research myself, but if anyone else has had this issue and it was solved by doing something, like adding manual treatments in the day (I am on PD and dialysize at night on a cycler approx 9 hrs).
Any suggestions will be appreciated.
